Out of curiosity, has anyone found a good free solution to Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/) working here in Canada?

The only real solution is to purchase a VPN ("virtual private network") service that gives you an IP address in the USA.  Hulu doesn't realize you're in Canada, and serves up the site.

Most US-based VPNs cost around $10 per month, i.e. -

You can google up others.  There are some free VPN services out there, i.e.

    http://www.ultravpn.fr/

...but they tend to be pretty sketchy, not work very well or be as rare as a pretty girl at a Star Trek convention.

Lol Geoff how about comparing it to Megavideo.

Hulu enrages me.  Same with stuff like clips from the Comedy Network.  I use Megavideo.  It's pretty good.

uuhh... you can just change your banner to read that you're from America, at least in firefox. Try this out

For Canadian viewers, if you are using firefox, install the following addon:
    http://addons.mozilla.... then

1 In Firefox, Go to tools then modify headers
2 From the drop down box on the left select add
3 Then enter: "X-Forwarded-For" in the first input box without the quotation marks
4 Enter: "12.13.14.15 in the second input box without the quotation marks
5 Leave the last input box empty, and save the filter, and enable it

@Geoff - Yes, I've tried some of the free VPN services.  Just didn't hold up to the reliability.

@Michael and Kat - Thanks for the tip on Megavideo.  That is one I haven't stumbled on to before.....

@Mathieu - Interesting!  This is one I'm going to have to try out!  Have you successfully watched hulu with it?  I would have thought hulu would be smart enough to filter out an x-forwarded-for and just rely on the actual IP, no?

@Marc - Exactly.  That's why you need to use a paid service.  They have more bandwidth and stability...

  4. 9/1/2010 Kat "with club sauce" S. says:

@Marc - Megavideo is useless for searching for content.  I use http://surfthechannel.com to find what I want to watch, then select the Megavideo link to watch it.  To get unlimited viewings you have to pay.  I find it worth it for the $20/3 months I pay (through PayPal, so secure) since I don't pay for cable.

http://Free-tvshows.com is good for HBO but their pop up ads drive me nuts.

Megavideo is like so many times bigger than Netflix yet not many people know about it.

Install and run HotSpot Shield to mask your IP to watch Hulu in Canada. Super easy.

i saw that hotspotshield come up as a suggestion before, but I read some reviews that some people had problems with spyware after installing it.

Can't seem to get the x-forwarded-for thing to work.  Mathieu, have you seen Hulu with it successfully in Canada recently?
