I appreciate the value of CanCon ... really I do ... making sure humble Canadian media gets a chance in the big bad media universe. But oh my freaking god, I swear I'm going to shoot myself if some of our local radio stations don't stop playing the same awful songs in order to make up their 30% requirement or whatever the ratio is. I mean, I can change the station and all, but these songs are like a disease, you can only escape them for so long.

Some examples of awfulness that must die. immediately. according to me:

Signs by Five Man Electrical Band
Black Velvet and whatever other crap Alannah Myles did in her thankfully brief moment in the spotlight
Most anything except Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane
Ahead by a Century by Tragically Hip (most of their stuff is overplayed, but this one is especially awful)

Any CanCon songs you'd rather watch a Little Hobo marathon than have to listen to again?

Personally I'm not a fan of Nickleback or any band that sounds like them.  I find the Peak 100.5 does a good job of playing good Canadian content, of which there is plenty!

"Sometimes When we Touch" by Dan Hill. It hurts my ears.

Ditto Black Velvet and anything by Nickelback.

I listen to Shore 104 and hear some amazing Canadian music. Such as Ridley Bent.

Oh Trude, you got that damned song stuck in my head this morning.  Thanks a lot.

Yeah, anything by TheoryOfANickelFault makes me stabby, too.

I enjoy the Peak, but for some reason they have been really into The Talking Heads lately, and I can't stand them.  Though not Canadian, they also make me stabby.

Also, Celine Dion - gah.  Can't stand her stuff.

Ah, good ol' Celine. She really doesn't do the Canadian music scene any favours. Ask your average person in UK to name a Canadian singer and she will be top of the list.  Or Shania Twain -  aaaaarrrrggghhh.......

ohnoooo not Dan Hill! They don't still play that, do they?
But during the Olympics, I really enjoyed the music of KD Lang and I loved watching Burton Cummings playing all his old hits. I was taken back. wayyyy back. lol  *and yes, I don't need to hear "American Woman" more than once every 3 years.
There are a lot of wonderful Canadian bands i.e. Cowboy Junkies (coming to The Cultch but tickets are a ruddy fortune!)
Traditional radio is no way to hear good music any more IMO.
Who listens to radio any more, seriously?

@Roanna: I'm just lazy I guess :) (I just downloaded my first BitTorrent the other day.)

@Liz B. Yeah, that one Shania Twain song can just go, "That don't impress me much" or whatever it's called.

Just thought of another for the ban list: Voodoo Thing by Colin James. In fact, there's strict "No Colin James" policy in my car.
