Since our dear Kat F relocated to Cali, the Toronto Yelp scene has been a little lite on UYE's.  

So - lets throw out some ideas - what would you like to do?
- vodka crawl?
- meat crawl?
- bowling uye?
- pot luck uye?

    Have there ever been any photowalk UYEs? I've done one or two (usually found out about through Flickr), and they are a great way to get out in the city. Fall would be awesome for that.

    What about an 'Asian Noodle/Chinese Food ' crawl?

    A food crawl can be good, but remember depending on where you go it can be downright expensive, and if it's pretty mediocre and/or crappy fare they it ain't worth it either!

    Can anyone suggest something fun, that's budget conscious as well?

    Money pretty tight for me this days, and NO it's because I'm NOT cheap, but a great bargain or several sure DO make my day!

    Anyone else here feel the same way too???

    I was considering doing an "Introduction to Urban Exploration" but I think I'd lose quite a bit of street cred.

    For several new year's eve I used to run a HotPot & Bowling event.  I think I did it for 5 years in a row and grew so big I pulled the plug.

    + I am also the king of UYE Epic Failures (with 1 or none): Go-Karting, Hot Docs, T&T Groceries, Driving Range, CNE.  I think I shall stop now.  Hence.. no more UYEs from me.

    I think we really need to do a "My First UYE" event of sorts to encourage those who have never or rarely come out (uh, me) to feel a little more comfortable knowing there will be a bunch of newbies there.. maybe?

    I would be down for Karaoke (though I wouldn't sing, I would be fine with mocking those of you who do), bowling, and something restaurant related. Maybe a UYE in the Yonge and Eglinton area? I feel that area is under-yelped (and coincidentally close to my home!). I would be down for trying out some healthier restaurant options too, just because most people I usually dine with avoid those like the plague.

    Or we could do something really avant-garde and all agree to meet at a certain laundromat where we all bring one sock to wash and during so we sip on Baileys and coffee whilst sprouting philosophical whimsy.

    Perhaps we'll start a trend where laundromats become hot spots for insightful discourse, wanton drunkenness and a new left-wing radicalism that will make the Boston Tea Party look like grannies sipping Earl Grey while watching Coronation Street reruns.  I can see the headlines in the weekly news entertainment section now "Popularity of laundromats as social epicenter surges across Canada." and "From Broken Social Scene to Leonard Cohen to Cirque du Soleil, Laundromats have become the venue of choice."

    Seriously WE CAN DO THIS! Amsterdam has their pot smoking cafes well Canada will be infamous for our crazy laundromat scene! Tourists will ask "Can you recommend a good club or bar?" and we'll be like "Dude f@#k that! Just head down to your local laundromat! And bring a sock!"

    Or we could do Karaoke...Yeah...Karaoke...We could do that, sure.

    I'm a fan of the "UYE for newbies" ideas @Amanda suggested. Yonge & Eglinton is do-able. Isn't there a bowlerama or something around that area?
    As for Karaoke it's not something that would be top of my list, but certainly enjoyable with people you don't really know?

    Anybody tried a Mid-Autumn Fest UYE before?  After the actual Mid-Autumn to avoid crowds and get cheap Mooncakes.

    Both Chinese and Vietnamese celebrate mainly, so thats a crawl on it's own.  

    Crawl 2-3 overcrowded Asian areas then Chinese Food, then share all varieties of Mooncakes.

    Sept 22, 2010 is the actual festival date.

    Eventually I'd like to do a Scooters Roller Palace UYE. I use to love going to Roller 2000 as a kid in Edmonton.

    @Lauren - Sure we can do 2 events.. one downtown for the more traditional experience.. one uptown for the newer experience.. (even in Hong Kong there are hardly any restaurants that have dim sum cart pusher anymore!

    As for bowling, the closest 10 pin one downtown is Thorncliffe, but off the subway line we've run a few at the one near Yonge north of Finch.

    The nicest one for sure would be Lucky Strike at Vaughn Mills.

    I would love to do 10-pin! I've only gone to 5-pin since living here - while that's fun in its own right I think 10-pin is my favourite. They do all seem difficult to get to w/ public transit though.

    As for a book swap.. well, i'd be interested in a book giveaway in the interests of shedding belongings!
