According to a Toronto Star columnist - what do you think?

http://www.thestar.com...

1. Yonge St. anywhere south of Eglinton Ave.
2. Palmerston Blvd.
3. Any street in Cabbagetown, east of Parliament St.
4. Fallingbrook Cres.
5. King St. E. between Church and Parliament Sts.
6. Ellis Park Rd.
7. Montcrest Blvd.
8. Tranby Ave.
9. Sheffley Cres.
10. Queens Quay

I agree with Palmerston - very beautiful and Ellis Park, if you can afford a $1 million home, what about the others? I strongly disagree with Yonge Street. Who would want to live RIGHT ON Yonge Street? Seems rather masochistic.

You know what I think about this.   PB represent.

Also, I completely agree with you on Yonge street.  Seems to be arguably the worst place to live in the whole city.

What about Glen Grove Crescent... right on the Ravine....

Different strokes for different folks, in my opinion.

If I had a choice, it'd probably be a toss-up between College Park or somewhere on QQ/near ACC/Skydome/or even Maple Leaf Square.

  2. 6/29/2009 Andre D. says:

I don't think it was based on income but I think it's a generalization.  I would strongly say that Yonge Street south of Eglinton and within the vicinity is pretty good.  Cabbagetown since it's gentrification has done well.  Queen's Quay speaks for itself.

But of course these are within the old City of Toronto boundaries.  Nothing in Etobicoke, North York, York and East York.  What about Yonge/Sheppard area?  What about mid-Etobicoke?  York and East York have nothing to write home about.

I think it's impossible to limit to 10. Every 'hood in TO has its own endearing qualities, nearly everywhere is connected and accessible, and almost every neighborhood has the makings for a good lifestyle. I really like Balliol in a soviet-throwback kinda way, bayview south of eg in in a frumpy way, and lust for Queen anywhere East of the DVP. why not keep trying them all?

Yonge Street is nice south of Eglington...but once you hit Bloor, not so much.  Unless the reporter finds living IN The Brass Rail or our garish version of Times Square and Piccadilly Circus at Yonge/Dundas appealing.

I have to agree with most of the others though...especially Palmerston Blvd. (I lived on Markham and always wanted to move 1 street over) and Ellis Park Rd. (something to aspire too!)

    queens quay is over-rated.

Yes, it is a beautiful spot to be in the summer, and the lakeview is great all year round, as well as it being quite safe at all hours of the morning. However, there is no buzz down there. no community, no neighbourhood feel.

    Its Dull and Artless.
so its perfect for the financial industry

  4. 8/3/2009 Kat "don't get me started!" F. says:

I agree about Queen's Quay being overrated. And actually, of all the people that I know who live in those buildings along QQ, none of them ever go to Harbourfront or enjoy the waterfront at all...plus there are like no restaurants to speak of, unless you count the Spice Thai and Swiss Chalet.

@Conor HAHAHA everyone I know that lives there or wants to live there is in the Financial Industry.

  5. 8/4/2009 Andre D. says:

It's called being close to where you work.  Reasonable proximity to the entertainment district as well.  I would like @ Queens Quay in a heartbeat.  Yes there needs to be some revitalization and I doubt it has to do with the residents that live there.  But it is probably because of the winters that people would not want to walk down there.  Think of the Chicago River.  There are no tours or shops open during the winter but it is vibrant during the summer.

I'd live on Brunswick St. between Bloor and Harbord. I like the residential vibe on the street and it's so close to all the cute restaurants on Harbord as well as all the Korean restaurants on Bloor.

8/4/2009 Neil "indefinite review hiatus" T. says:

I gotta stand up for QQ!  I live towards Bathurst and absolutely love it.  Anything west of Spadina is really quiet and very residential.  I love walking across the street to shoot hoops, run along the boardwalk, or visit the community centre.  There's some subsidized housing west of Bathurst, which gives the neighborhood a bit of an edge, though it's remarkably safe.

The people in my building are far closer to being neighbors than any other place I've lived.  The only small downfall of my area is that I'm not really close to many restaurants or shops...but I don't think it's a bad thing in all cases.

Best hidden gem of a street to live on on Toronto:

    Draper Street.

I would give half my body to live on that street.

    So pretty.
