   I'm looking for something new and fun too.  Some good spots are Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar http://www.jkkitchens.com/ Jamie Kennedy,  George http://www.georgeonque..., Lee, Canoe, Thuet http://www.thuet.ca.  Further uptown North44 and Centro are pretty good too - and super high end but probably difficult to get a reservation - just out of town is Eigensenn Farm.    Worth googling any of these.   Could use some suggestions myself for something new and exciting on the scene  - I've been out of touch.

   Considering you will be right smack in the middle of the Toronto Film Festival I would suggest Kultura on King St East or heading up to Yorkville, Bloor Street area, lots of selection and happening there.
