Do you crave a sweet (french toast, pancakes, oatmeal, brioche) breakfast or more savoury items (eggs, home fries, sausages)?

I can never decide; I love it when restaurants have an all-inclusive option that gives you a little bit of each item so you don't have to choose. Lately I've been making my own breakfast and I try to do both. Like two eggs and then some sweetened oatmeal or something. What are your favourite breakfast items?

  1. 9/10/2010 Payam "Gene splicer, Leucine unzipper" Z. says:

mmmmmm sweet and savory for me!!!
Pumpkin Pancake with cinnamon Yogurt Sauce, followed by a side of Merguez Sausage and bacon! All with a blood orange juice!
    yesssss!

  2. 9/10/2010 from Yelp for iPhone Richie "Food Slut™" S. says:

It varies, depending on the severity of the hangover. The greater the headache, the greater the need for savoury treats. An it commonly known that hollandaise goes on everything.

  3. 9/10/2010 Cameron "I need all the YELP I can get" O. says:

waffles with fruit/cream/syrup + bacon & sausages on the side.

Why choose when you can have both?

Favorite breakfast: Grilled aji, rice, miso soup, marinated mini shrimp, spinach with crushed black sesame.  So I guess that's savory.  Though most days I just have some fresh fruit so that's sweet.  But right now I think I'll order what Payam said because that sounds amazing!

Funny you should mention this. This weekend my stomach was acting up but we went for brunch anyway. I ended up ordering Whole Wheat Blueberry Pancakes. They were delicious.

This is the first time I have had a sweet breakfast/brunch in about 10 years. I'm a pure salt/grease/carb kinda guy for breakfast. So it was totally out of character but.. yeah. Weird. It was yum though.

I like them both equally!  http://media3.px.yelpc... and http://media1.px.yelpc...

I'm into both sweet and savoury, and will pursue unorthodox means to get it.  Ask Shari M. and I about French toast and ketchup.  Delicious!

  6. 9/11/2010 Val "neutered's cuter" G. says:

Sweet with maybe some savoury on the side (roasted rosemary potatoes, toast... are baked beans sweet or savoury?) I'm still dreaming of my Bongo Room pancake breakfast in July.

  7. 9/11/2010 Renata "nyanyanyan" R. says:

Sweet. I can't have savoury items in my breakfast, and it's supposed to be very light, or it'll make me sleepy.

Savoury most of the time, but it depends on my mood and where I'm having breakfast. I love a big breakfast, when I have the time. At home, I might have leftovers or have a diner-style breakfast (egg dish, veggie dish, homefries, bacon). At a greasy spoon diner, I like to have a mix of sweet and savoury (e.g. french toast + sausage/bacon, homefries). If I'm on the run, I might grab a sweet something (e.g. danish, croissant) but that's not my preference. But on occasion, fresh fruit with tea alone does the trick.

For the most part, I can't survive very long with a sweet breakfast (I get hungry way too soon afterwards) - with the exception of a fruit breakfast. Savoury meals tend to tide me over for a longer period.

Both sweet and savoury. If I'm at home I will always eat  some sort of fruit salad and oatmeal or a smoothie and fruit salad, or an egg and fruit salad. ( I love fruit!) If I'm out I usually want something savoury and somewhat fatty, but  I have to get a side of fruit with it or I just don't feel satisfied. However, I'm really not big on pancakes or waffles with for breakfast.

Just walked by Karine's and was almost lured in by their French Toast. http://www.yelp.ca/biz...  I've heard it's amazing. Any other places you guys know about that do french toast right?

Mostly savory, I really go for the classic breakfast. Every once in awhile though I'll opt for pancakes or French toast. For light breakfast a coffee n croissant or bagel.

Oh poo, now I got a craving for woo kak at Yung Sing and they are no longer in business.

Why decide?  That's what side dishes are for!

Pancakes with fresh fruit + side of bacon AND sausage AND ham AND AND AND AND...  Yes I'm a glutton.

That's why i love the Bar One Brunch- potatoes, eggs, pancakes, green salad and sliced fruit. Fair and balanced, unlike Fox.

Savory for sure! I don't like to pretend desserts are meals; I just don`t. Maybe I'll snag a bite off someone else's plate, but that's enough for me. Keep away from my omlette!
