I wish we had poutine in the states.

  1. 8/7/2008 Nish "Nish" N. says:

My one time trying it was at a place called Salt House in San Francisco. If that was any indication, I'm sold.

  2. 8/7/2008 Tom E. says:

I used to live with a gang from Toronto in London. They made poutine regularly and I loved them for it - but it's a dish mostly from Quebec not Ontario.

  3. 8/7/2008 Tony C. says:

I believe there's plenty of poutine in the States.

    Gage Restaurant, Chicago:

i love poutine fries too!  once when i was in toronto, i was on a poutine quest.  and believe it or not, the best poutine i had was from a costco.  gotta love costco!

  5. 8/7/2008 Adam "A bit of Louisiana in LA" B. says:

There's Poutine out there in LA. Couple of places like Dusty's in Silverlake and the Redondo Beach Cafe in (ahem!) Redondo Beach.

  7. 8/8/2008 Jeffrey "You may have to age but do not have to mature" K. says:

Yes . . . Poutine is wonderful and it truly is not bad at Pomme Frites here in New York, but it will blow your mind in Montreal.  Good places in Montreal for Poutine is at Rubens on St. Catherine Street (with or without it being topped with smoked meat) -- and believe it or not, the poutine at McDonalds is pretty damn good -- on the other hand, I would avoid the poutine at Burger King.

  8. 8/8/2008 Dane K. says:

    jkwb ftw!

  9. 8/8/2008 Erica F. says:

tony those places you listed are fancy ass imitations of poutine
poutine is country simple food, gravy fries and farmers cheese
i mean there are variations on it, but seriously to order poutine in a fancy restaurant and pay 17 dollars for it hurts my head

  10. 8/9/2008 Rachel "Lil Miss Giggles" A. says:

    what does poutine taste like?

  11. 8/9/2008 Kat "Kitty" T. says:

C'mon- anything outside of Montreal isn't the same. Poutine tastes like french fries with gravy and cheese curds. In Toronto, the Blue Truck in front of City Hall has the best in the city since our most recent survey. Cheese curds can be found in many specialty cheese shops to make it at home yourself. Although, the St Hubert poutine sauce makes it much more original.

  12. 8/11/2008 Andrew "fancy that, eilte again" Y. says:

Hold on. Poutine in Ontario tastes best from New York Fries!

  13. 8/11/2008 Tony C. says:

    hehehe.

Erika, Eli didn't say: "i want cheap and "authentic" true-to-form poutines in the USA"

he only wished US has poutine. and it does. sorta.

  14. 8/13/2008 Eli "minativism" G. says:

tony, that's what i should have said though =]

i like simple poutine, hot, light brown gravy, squeeky cheese curds and lots of eh?

only place in LA to west LA i've found is soleil in westwood, good but not authentic. there's a place in redondo i need to try next. i wish we had harvey's down here too.

i agree - poutines rule!  It's hard to describe them to newbies without freaking people out...I mean, come on..."imagine a bed of fries with cheese curds and gravy poured on top, creating a saucy mess..." to me, it's heaven, but the "curd" might throw people off.  Try these guys for some serious poutine (they're Canadian) http://www.yelp.com/bi...

yeah, i can't stand it when pubs try to pass off their shredded-cheese + gravy fries as poutine. SACRELIGE!

i agree, the best places in the t-dot are any of the trucks in front of City Hall. the blue van is awesome, but if their oil is too old or too new, it can be a miss. check out the look of the fries owned by the people in front of you and then move on to the other trucks -- you can't lose.

  17. 12/22/2008 Vivian "Chicago's Food Whore" Y. says:

mm...poutine.  I am from Canada but live in Chicago now.  My American husband LOVES it when I make it for him! It's so easy!  We buy a TON of Wisconsin curds when we pass buy and we freeze it.  when it's time to eat the good ole poutine, I defrost a batch and  I make salty yummy gravy and drizzle it over oven baked shoestring fries.  delish!

  18. 2/20/2009 Miriam "kleine maus" W. says:

Smoke's Poutinerie was a big topic of conversation over dinner last night. Is that the place that does the foie gras poutine?

If your looking for Foie Gras in your Poutine go to Montreal. 6 hrs later and you can get the best by far http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
I don't think that Smoke's has Foie Gras poutine...I actually went by there last week and the line-up was insane. They have some pretty interesting poutine combo's - Shredded beef?? You just never know!
