After much deliberation I decided that the initial run of iPhone 4s wasn't enough for me to trade up from a 3GS. I figure if I wait till 2011 I can opt for a much better iPhone 4GS or the latest hot android phone. I'll also get a choice of carriers as my current contract runs out.

  1. 7/31/2010 Melissa F. says:

    I concur
I do appreciate how they are going sans contract.
However it's super pricey.  But in a year the price will go down the original 4g, or at least the street price will go down.

I got in line at 4am yesterday and got a 32gb iphone. :) I love it. Have been making a boatload of extended calls (I've been without a phone for three weeks, so I'm making up for lost time!) and haven't experienced any signal issues whatsoever -- and I'm not holding it t any differently than I did any of my other phones (I've been using the iPhone since the first gen). The screen is bright, making videos with iMovie on the phone is fun (http://www.youtube.com... - heh), and having FaceTime with my friends back home is even more fun.

I bit the bullet and bought the unlocked one so I didn't have to do a long contract -- plus, I'll be doing a fair amount of traveling to the US and abroad, so I wanted something I could use internationally without roaming. The providers here are also offering nice deals on 5GB data plans that include tethering and shared bandwith on iPad 3G for around $60, so I got that too. FWIW, I bought an extra unlocked one as a gift that I might end up selling, so watch CL in the next week or so. :)

Since the OS updates, my 3G...though physically impossible...both sucks and blows.

Went to a few kiosks and Future Shops yesterday afternoon looking to buy the 4 and I was soundly laughed at, as they're all sold out. If get a three year contract though: at $159 I could sell my 3G for more than that and lose little to know money.

Know = no, fer' f@%* sake.

I also regret upgrading.  Other 3G users, just say no.

Pretty sure we'll have a 4GS in 6 months. Also perhaps a Droid X or something similar. Tempting to get a 4G now though.

@richie - not sure who your provider is, but as of around 5pm this eve, the Telus store on Danforth still had phones in stock.

Got mine tonight at Yorkdale. I updated my 3G and I couldn't even text properly and it was so frustrating. If you get it with contract, you'd pay $160 plus your monthly bill and you can cancel your contract whenever you want when you pay only $400 so it will still be cheaper than buying it unlocked though. No signal loss so far.
Now I wanna try the FaceTime! But I don't  know anyone else Who's got iPhone 4.0 :)

  7. 8/1/2010 Eric "it's not hipster, you're just boring." M. says:

The upgrade to 4.1 is better than the upgrade to 4.0 however you do have to pay attention to what you're opening. Gone are the days when you can just open app after app and not worry about it. Since the new OS supports multitasking but the 3G doesn't the phone keeps apps open in memory even though they've been shut down. If you're an app heavy user then it will help to shut the phone down and turn it back on a few times a day.

    Or, just buy the 4.

It's due to the ram (128mb v.s 512mb iPhone 4)- the processor on the 3G is much slower as well (I think it's clocked down to 400mhz v.s 1ghz iPhone 4)

  8. 8/1/2010 from Yelp for iPhone Richie "Food Slut™" S. says:

@Avitania - let me rephrase that: all iPhones are sold out Except for Telus. I've been with Fido for 13 bloody years.

  9. 9/1/2010 Richie "Food Slut™" S. says:

Mine arrived via UPS Monday.  I had the 3G before, so no Yelp Monocle.  Ha Haaaaaaa!  Fun stuff.

If anyone's still looking for an iPhone 4, the U of T Bookstore has them.

i ordered the ipod touch 4g, most of the perks of the iphone 4 and i'm happy with my current cheap nokia cell and just doing pay as you go (100$ a year). i just cant give rogers/bell/telus etc... 800$+ a year (considering thats after tax money thats like 1400 that i need to make to get that 800). too crazy...
