So, I was recently on craigslist looking for bikes and parts, (which daily activity for me) and I noticed something that I was actually potentially interested in (a rarity on the Toronto craigslist). It was a Kona cyclocross bike (http://toronto.en.crai...) and it is listed for $599. That's a good price for that bike, but when I clicked on the listing there was no picture and no useful information (also not uncommon on Toronto craigslist). Not even the size or year or color. This is SUSPICIOUS!!! This is exactly what somebody selling a stolen bike would do, not provide enough information for the victim to identify it. So I am still curious about the bike and intrigued by the post so I email and ask about the size, and year, and for a few pictures. I get an email return, but with none of that information and nothing useful.
So I do a little internet searching to find that this bike (and many others) is being listed by a place called Uncle Jacob. And this place, along with the above mentioned Igor's, are infamous in Toronto for buying and selling stolen bikes. WHAT. THE. FUCK! As I read several stories of bike theft and how a few of them found their bike at these places...and that the police even know that this is going on and recommend checking these places, I was shocked and awed by the incompetence of the Toronto police force. Uh, can you say "crackdown"?
So first off, Vivek, have you checked those places to see if your bike is there? Second, you could get a cheap, used (probably by somebody who had it stolen) bike there but I wouldn't recommend it. Third, how do people let this go on? In plain sight no less! Unbelievable.
