Ossington's been getting a bad rap lately but there are some really cool bars along the strip - especially if you follow the general rule of avoiding it on weekends, you'll be fine! I can't believe there are about 20 bars on that strip between Dundas and Queen! Holy crap. And it runs the gamut from total 'dive bar' to upscale and classy...

My faves: Crooked Star, Communist's Daughter, Sweaty Betty's and Reposado.

Not a fan of Levack Block or Baby Huey's...how about you?

Also has anyone ever been to an event at Rolly's Garage, the autoshop that's been converted into an art space, on the west side of Ossington?

Yup, been to Rolly's Garage.  Actually managed to sit outside on one of the three summer nights we've had to date.  It's a cool spot.  I LOVE the Crooked Star, home to one of my favorite canines, Jazzy the House mutt.  Have you ever been in to the Painted Lady?  It's just north of the Crooked Star. It too is a cool little spot.  Two chicks run the joint and they are quite the characters.  Interesting snacks. Never done Reposado.  .

Oh nice! I was hoping someone had been there. It has no reviews, hint, hint. Someone's gotta nab that First To Review! I'm eager to check Rolly's out myself. Sounds unique.

We had a Yelp drinks night at Painted Lady - I voted their washrooms the scariest in the city, by a landslide. It was nice inside but I'd discourage sitting outside as the fish smell from the shop next door is stifling!!

Such a great idea!! It'd make it really easy for people to meet up with us along the way, or continue to the next place without much effort. Should we start at the bottom (Sweaty Betty's) and work our way up to the top (Communist's Daughter)? Or the reverse?

I'm so down for that.  Anything that involves drinking your way up and down the street is my kinda fun.  :)

Ossington is fun.  I would be in for the ossington crawl if we can skip LeVack... a little too crowded for my taste.  Also must note the garage is wicked cool and love drinking $4 cocktails out of styrofoam cups at their shows!

  5. 7/19/2009 Kat "don't get me started!" F. says:

Hmm - but not a weekend crawl; that'll get ugly on Ossington (as mentioned above). Cover, 905 crowd, etc.

The last Thursday in July? Friday, if we start early?

  6. 7/20/2009 Kat "don't get me started!" F. says:

    July 30 or 31.

I've got my planning hat on now...I cannot be stopped!!

  7. 7/20/2009 Melissa F. says:

    ahahahah
    i'd prefer 31st.
just so yelpers that, you know, have real jobs [9-5ers] aren't turned away due to the workday issue.

    but whatever works!

    eek! i'm totally excited.

That's my hood! So I'm into that. I'm out of town the long weekend and into the week after. I definetly know the hood. It'd make a good blog post for my little http://OssingtonVillag... blog.

Just went to check out the new restaurant "Union" last weekend - would have given it two thumbs up had it not been for the quirky wait-staff.  Upon arrival to an empty restaurant I asked if my date and I could sit and have a drink while we waited for tables to be prepared.  We were told that wasn't possible, slightly strange considering a) the restaurant as mentioned was empty and b) the bar area usually for such purposes was crammed.  So instead we just sorta stood awkwardly for a while.  When I asked the same waitress which of the tables was going to be ours (thinking ahead to see if maybe it was the one by the window which we would have preferred to sit at) she answered:

    "the one that isn't ready."

Yep...and things just kept getting weirder from there with her.

Anyways, we stuck it out and the food and atmosphere was great.  However not sure in spite of that if I'll be returning any time soon.

Yikes! That is very strange - can't wait to read the full review of how things got stranger, Adam!
