What are some good beaches in Massachusetts that have a nice hotel on the beach and are decently affordable?

You can't go wrong with Cape Cod.  I love Chatham, but this is notoriously the most expensive town on the Cape.  The only beach front hotel in Chatham is the Chatham Bars Inn.  http://www.chathambars.../

There's a good deal right now at Ocean Edge, through TravelZoo.  I've been tempted to make a reservation, but I am taking a week trip to San Francisco instead.  Here's the deal: http://hotels.travelzo...

Oh, and this is the best beach front bar/restaurant (best beach too) http://www.thebeachcom...

Good luck with your choice, let us know what you decide.

It doesn't get any more fun than Provincetown.  It's largely a gay community, but many travelers of all types.  It's the farthest town on the cape (the largest beaches too).  There are tons of bars, restaurants, and thousands of people walking the streets all hours of the day.  Some of the hotels can be gross (and no air conditioning), this one seems to be a good value for a clean, air conditioned room, on the water and on commercial (at the end of it, but nothing is too bad of a walk).

    No should I?

Since Boston is in Mass and the Cape is in Mass, many people in Boston visit the Cape.  They will probably have more knowledge of the beaches in Mass than us Buffatonkians.

    Just a thought.

You might want to go slightly north and check out Crane Beach, or even Hampton Beach in NH.  Hampton Beach is old school Atlantic City style with boardwalks and arcades and stuff like that.  It's literally right over the MA border and a quick ride from Boston.

If you're going during the busy season, Cape traffic and prices are going to be crazy.  If money isn't an object, skip the Cape and head straight out to Nantucket - it's beautiful there.
