Hey all!
What's a good place other than your apt to get friends together to watch something on tv?! I'm talking more tv show premieres than sporting events!

I've only ever used a condo's "theatre room" to watch special TV events (like the Oscars).  That was pretty good because there was lots of seating and a big screen TV.

I'm not sure of what bars would have what you're looking for.  A hotel bar might be good; they're rarely too busy and usually there are a few TVs around.

  2. 7/27/2010 Dishan "For Yelp Eyes Only" W. says:

I know Hoops (At leas the one on Yonge and College) have a tv screen on every table that you can change to any channel. But hope for a low level of background noise so you can hear your show.
As for a tv show taking the main stage on a bar, I've never really experienced that, I have seen random tv shows go on Casey's and Jack Astor's though but I know that was because the staff were not quite sure how to figure the technicalities out properly.

  3. 7/27/2010 Karl "Kid Don Cornelius" R. says:

For a while back in the 1990s they would have tv finales (TNG, Cheers) at skydome. Admission was free and people would pig out on food at the concession stands. Probably with the 200 channel universe audiences are so subdivided these days you might not get the crowds for, say, a Mad Men finale.

I was part of a virtual cast for the last presidential election and that was kind of fun.

I always liked when some of the big, plush hotels downtown would put out screens in their lobbies for the olympic opening ceremonies. Kind of nice to sink into a plush hotel lobby chair and watch the ceremonies.

There also used to be a "TV Deli" downtown, if I recall. You could eat and watch TV. It was on King street around where Dunn's is.

But yeah it would be nice if there were more pub like venues for shared tv watching beyond sports.

Karl, I agree on all levels. New York had this part figured out as you could find at least one bar showing pretty much any show, and the fans / ransoms would watch together.
Dishan sports bars are too noisy!
Vivek, condo theatre rooms are a good idea. I'll have to see who's up for it

  5. 7/28/2010 Elaine "Danger Zone" K. says:

They used to show new episodes of Queer as Folk at Woody's back when it was on. The whole act of watching a show with a bar full of people is pretty amazing. It's kind of like seeing a movie, except with drinking and discussions.

  6. 7/29/2010 Payam "Gene splicer, Leucine unzipper" Z. says:

exactly! I think Elaine gets the idea.
anyways I failed in the end :( might end up at football factory trying to watch very irrelevant stuff

  7. 7/29/2010 Elaine "Danger Zone" K. says:

Perhaps what we need to do is get a bunch of people together, pick a date and time and a place, and just ram the place and demand they put on the show, and turn it up.

    True Blood night!!!!

I'm not gonna lie that my gathering was for Jersey Shore and not an actually good show!
we ended up raiding first floor lounge area of a condo!

  9. 7/30/2010 Elaine "Danger Zone" K. says:

Haha sometimes that's the only way to watch those kind of shows. You should only be ashamed if you watch that show by yourself, and never tell anyone about it. Getting others peoples' opinions is half the fun.

I think we should all call up the Park Hyatt on Bloor and ask them to show Mad Men at their rooftop bar.
