  1. 8/8/2008 Jeffrey "You may have to age but do not have to mature" K. says:

The culture!  It is so close to New York, yet it is so far away too -- it has its own flavor, its own style and its own beauty.  Nothing like it -- although it borrows influences from the U.S. and Europe, the city is unto itself.

    I could easily live there

    1) Restaurants as good as New York
    2) The people understand and love Ice Hockey
    3) The most beautiful women of any city I've been to in the world (something's in the h20)
    4) Recreational opportunities abound (#3 being my favorite recreational activity)
    5) Cheap rent (compared to Manhattan)

I could go on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, mais c'est magnifique!!!

  7. 9/18/2008 Kathy "Granola Snob" S. says:

    -Cheap rent.. even downtown!
    -Cheap AND great food!
    -Funny french people
-Rue St. Denis and St. Catherine
-The people in general are very easy going and up for a good time
-LA STCUM!!! You don't need a car :)
-The hot summers and the snow flakey winters

PS - Not everyone from Montreal loves hockey (I'm a Montrealer and I don't!)

One bad thing: Lots of hot women but not enough hot men :(

  8. 9/18/2008 Kathy "Granola Snob" S. says:

Wait.. is anyone on Yelp Montreal actually still living in Montreal? This is funny..

  9. 9/18/2008 Dave "http://goo.gl/avfD8" H. says:

I've noticed a few users that say they're from Montreal! I've sent invites to join Yelp to my Montreal friends too -

That probably explains why Schwart's is the #1 restaurant in Montreal on Yelp!!! Which Montrealer living in Montreal hangs out there??? Who would wait 30 minutes in line to eat a smoked meat, honestly.

    Bump!

Thank you for the note about Schwartz's, I think we should work to have all mention of it banned for two years so tourists can see the city.

I still live in Montreal and I promise I'm a hot guy (Kathy!) but that's not why I love the city...I love it because if you work more than 40 hours a week, whole sections of the city consider you a loser!

I was born just an hour from here in NY, but I have never had the opportunity to visit here. Once I discovered Poutine, I'm done.
I must try it. I will be visiting Montreal soon in late december early january. Do they have Yelp elite events here yet???

Things I want to do while in Montreal:
    Eat Poutine.
    Watch a hockey game.
go to a few good bands/DJ shows
see a local market, buy food, and cook it.
see Montreal like a local. I am not a fan of Touristy stuff.

    11/11/2008 Miss "F for Frenchie" F. says:

Montreal is great because it is such a cosmopolite city and people from all around the world live here, and you must admit that knowing how winters are here, it is not easy to overcome it but we all do!!! I love the melting pot here.
Montreal is like the perfect mix between Paris and New York for me (and I lived in both)...less arrogant than Paris, less stressful than NYC; people are nice, beautiful, friendly, smart...we have great places to eat, to party, to walk around...
BUT to get better my yelp friends, I suggest we all put an effort into writing more and more reviews on http://yelp.com and invite our friends to do it as well, so that Montréal can start promoting itself through this website....It is a great city, so let's share it here. I think we could do so much more through yelp about giving your point of view about a place, a restaurant, a location... and don't get me wrong I just started today because I jsut found out about http://yelp.com and have been looking for such a website for a year. It happened that i read an article on the NY Times online about yelp and found out there was a section for Montreal!!!!
Looking forward to meet restaurant and wine aficionados like me to share thoughts on palces to go to and make them better!!!

    2/8/2009 DAVE I. says:

Montreal is like The Matrix. No one can tell you what it is, you have to see it for yourself. It's just different from other cities. She has so many faults and problems and yet after leaving her for over a year, I had to come back. You know she's bad for you but you can't keep away.

But after living in other large cities (mostly in America) my baby needs a lot of work, we just don't take care of her as we should. But I'll never give up on her.

  10. 2/22/2009 Mathieu "MJ" B. says:

Montreal is definetely the best for the food and the nightlife.

In opposition to other province and some US states, our bar closes at 3:00 am.
The price for excellent restaurant is cheap compare to most big city. The accessibility for excellent product not corrupted by frozen product is excellent. It's the only city, except maybe Toronto and Vancouver that has all the underground sub-culture from Goth to Hip-Hop for latin music ; NAME IT! We have large amount of interesting FREE festivals.  LOTS OF LOCAL GOOD BEER,  Lot's of job, cost of life low compare to most Big City, We have  a good hockey team, one good soccer team, and one good football team (even it's CFL) Unfortunatly we lost our Baseball team.

    1 - food / drink  - restaurants
2 - bar - pub - club scene is nice
    3 - low life cost

I have to agree that in Montreal there is a surplus of really hot women and not enough hot men to match that. Haha, I read that comment up there - Kathy! - and laughed out loud. Ok, so I'm not the only one who thinks that!

  11. 3/16/2009 Sunny "loves Spain" M. says:

I love the people, the food, the streets, the life-style, the bakeries with the smell of fresh croissants, the bilingual service everywhere and of course the Euro craving that you get, it's located in North America (I know it's in Canada, I KNOW)

I went there for summer time and it was great time to go, the weather was great, there are plenty of thing that one can do, lots of site-seeings and of course lots of history to know and learn. I would definitely  go again.
