A b. says:
Katie, what's your field? If you do not speak French fluently (or at least decently) it will be hard to find a job in most fields. In fact in any field it may be illegal to work without a working knowledge of French, see Bill 101 for more details. If you are good with French then check out Immigration Quebec's website (http://www.immigration...), as it has answers to many of your questions (actually easier to navigate than the federal government website I think)! If you are not good with French, then I suggest trying to move to another city in Canada first (there are so many other awesome ones as well)... Ottawa is close and they do speak French there as well, so you could maybe take classes, and at least be close enough to visit very often.
Also, the job market has been pretty depressed in Montreal for years, and it's become even more so now that America has slunk into a major recession. I'm not saying it's impossible to get a job here, just very difficult, and especially if you're tying immigration into the mix and a lack of fluent French, employers will not be jumping at the chance to hire you. If you do speak fluent French though, Québec City actually has the lowest unemployment rate in all of Canada, so there's that to think about too.
I hope that was helpful. Good luck!
