Ok maybe i'm in enemy territory here (seeing all the love for Fairmont), but I'm a St-Viateur's fan. But they have to be fresh (i.e. i watch them come out of the oven) or else they can be a bit gluey. Hands down the best thing to eat after a long evening out of the town or when we go on our midnight bagel runs, night time is definitely the time to visit. I can usually scarf down at least two on the ride home, and the whole house smells warm and bagely upon our return. Their prices are good, and even for stuff in their dairy case, competitive pricing. Smoked salmon is a must.

Tip: Know what you want before you approach the counter, you've seen that episode of Seinfeld, well the same goes here.

Although I enjoy both Fairmount and St. Viateur, another good place for bagels is R.E.A.L. Bagel on 4940 Chemin Queen-Mary.  Good selection of bagels, they do sandwiches and the such.
