One thing that's really been disappointing to me is the relatively poor selection of wine most LC's have (though someone just put me on to Cristall & Luckett to check out.  I've mulled the idea of making my own wine, because some folks I know back in Ontario do it and they actually produce some quite drinkable stuff, saving the expensive stuff for special occasions.

So tell me, Halifax, where do I start in this pursuit here?  What I'm ideally looking for is a place where I can make win, where it's stored and aged and all until it's ready on the premises until I show up to bottle it - not buying a kit to have to do everything at home.  That's something I'm thinking of doing in the future but for now it's a little too involved and too much of an outlay up front.  Ideally somewhere in Clayton Park, but I'm pretty flexible!

Oh, wow.  Typing FAIL. Well, it turns out you can make it in a few places, two of which are within spitting distance of my office in Clayton Park, too - so I'm going to check out the options and maybe I'll make a post about my winebottling win - or not win.

Well, it's apparently interesting timing that I posted this.  What I was looking to do is possible, apparently.  By going to New Brunswick!

It never ceases to amaze me how NS laws and policies seem to be made in a vacuum when it's too easy to jaunt down to Moncton, make 60 bottles of wine for $4 each, and make a day of it.

And the place closest to my office is leading the charge to try to fix the rules and make it accessible to all:

Yeah, I had heard that the laws about U-Brew were different out here but wasn't sure... Vancouver is FULL of spots where you can brew in the way you're talking about.
