Anyone hear about Geocaching?

"Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers with other participants in the activity. "

People bury and hide little containers with crap and trinkets in them, kind of like mini time capsules.  If you go to the website, you can search for GPS coordinates in your area to find capsules, Then you go out, find them. Inside these capsules along with the cool trinkets is a log book where people before you write about their history on how they found the capsule.

The fun in it is "hunting" for the capsules, which are usually hidden very well.  Once you find it, you get a "story" of the history and journeys before you. What adds to the fun, is the give and take aspect. You can take something from the capsule, but you have to add something in return.

It might sound nerdy or childish, but trust me, this is loads of fun.

I want to organize an event in a few weeks, when the weather is cooler. It's more fun in the fall, and easier to find them since grasses and leaves are not as camouflaging. Then we can hit up a pub or resto and talk about the adventure.

When/which day are you planning for?

I've got a Garmin eTrex Legend Hcx and am close to hitting the 100 mark soon.

I just did the Harbourfront/SkyDome/Music Gardens area on Wednesday with 3 geocaching virgins :)

Yes it is, but it might be easier and more enjoyable to get an experienced cacher from your area to show you the ropes, so you don't end up frustrated (or worse) and can experience the best caches around you (ie: not a bunch of lame urban micros).

I've been geocaching since 2006, and it has added so much to many aspects of my life. I highly recommend it!

Hey, nothing wrong with urban micros!

The iPhone actually makes life easier. I wish I had one. With the GPS, I have to individually upload the geocaches to it and then print out the clues. Wastes a lot of paper :/

BTW, I might or might not be going out next Wednesday afternoon with a friend. If anyone is interested, message me and I'll keep you posted if I do go.
