And their breakfasts are hard to be beat. The hubby and I…More »

Best Places to Shop Gluten Free (3)

At six months of age, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease.  Growing up, all I knew was that this meant I had to have milk-substitutes instead of the real deal, and my parents would have to drive down to the Sick Kid's in downtown Toronto to purchase dough for bread, so that I could have sandwiches like any other kid.

For whatever reason, my parents thought that I had "grown out" of this allergy to wheat and dairy products (essentially anything that has gluten in it, including All Purpose flour) when I was around eight; so I began to eat all the foods that my friends did.   Looking back now, I was always uncomfortably bloated and gaseous - right up into university; and never understood why all the other kids didn't seem to be in pain right after lunch every day.

Long story short, I've recently discovered what it meant to be intolerant to foods with gluten and have found that I live MUCH better without it.  I might not have Celiac Disease as what was first diagnosed, but I definitely have an intolerance to gluten.  Problem is, it's in practically everything.

Or it was.  These days, there are lots of products displaying a "Gluten Free" banner on their label which I'm now having fun discovering, but it can still be difficult find these items at regular stores.

So here's my list of places, mostly found in the Junction area that sell Gluten Free foods.
