My bride-to-be friend and I walked into the Dress Room (the business' card says "Becker's Dressroom", but that's not on their signage) on a rainy Saturday morning. Despite not having an appointment (recommended, ladies) they slotted us into a…More »
While Becker's stores (floored with hardwood and carpet) have the midrange market locked down, Vogue Sposa (marble tile) caters more to the upscale, with few options under $1000. The two dresses our helpful hostess suggested were quite lovely, and…More »

The third stop on our Danforth Bridal Madness tour, Becker's Bridal Fashions has a few differences from its eastward sister store. First, it's divided into two parts: one side has samples to be tried on and ordered, like the Dress Room, and the…More »

Posh is always an interesting browse. Most of the pieces (yes, I'm calling them pieces) are $50+, with many separates around the $100 mark, as I recall. I'd suggest it for upscale casual wear, funky office wear, and glittering tea gowns.

The Search for Breakfast in Wychwood (6)Since the closing of our two favourite places for breakfast (the lamented Queen's Dairy and D-Ganz, which also did a great steak), my husband and I have wandered from Bathurst past Oakwood looking for a cheap, satisfying, cozy place to get our scrambled/brown/sausage/t ea on. Recommendations gratefully received!I think we now have a clear winner in the $10+/per diner category. |
Thai Thai Thai Love Love Love (13)How did Canadians live before Thai food? I know there was a dark age in the early eighties, before Satay on the Road opened, when one could hardly find a rice noodle in this town. Now, we're up to our necks in it - and lovely as it is to have so many options, if you're going to promise me Thai, you'd better make it flavourful. From worst to best, here is my celebration of this delicious supra-equatorial cuisine. |
Best food near Wychwood (8)After three and a half years in the area, these are my favourites. We're short on breakfast and I wish we had a good bar or pub, but man, can we ever do dinner! Most of these are budget options. If your idea of romance is $35 pastas, look elsewhere, but these are great places for dinner with friends - or with a special someone who prefers good food to tablecloths. Don't forget a sundae after: very romantic! |
Toronto Libraries (6)Toronto's got an awesome library system; here are the ones I know. |
