One of our best lodging experiences on our tour of the planet thus far. AND we got a discount for being spontaneoous as we booked the day before. Not many places do that!

This is the home to two remarkable people who make up an important part of the fabric of this charming town. They care not only about people but about offering a real home to weary travelers. Martin and John's lovingly restored Georgian home is full…More »
We have been here for three Spa getaways and always leave impressed. The Hydropath is a absolute must. Try to begin your visit in there to completely relax before your holiday. Massages are often with registered massage therapists who have been…More »
There is no more elegant way to travel than by the Cunard, Queen Mary 2 ocean liner. This is no trashy, all you can drink, hawaiian shirt cruise ship. This is a walk back in time to the golden age of travel. Fine dining three times a day, white glove…More »
THE way to arrive in Victoria is by float plane. Sure ferries are nice... (cough) No really, take a float plane at least once in your life. Bring your camera and be transported into a spread from Beautiful British Columbia Magazine.
As a Canadian this hotel met my expectations. Sure, it's not LA or Vegas (thank god). There are compact cars and pick-up trucks in the circular drive and the staff aren't going to treat you like a celebrity.
The basic rooms (or "entry level" as I like…More »
I rarely think about rating airports but perhaps I should start a list for this one. Victoria would start out at the top of mine. First off, it's small and everything is brand new as the terminal has recently had an overhaul. There aren't a great…More »
A small two terminal airport mostly for people commuting on short flights. The parking lots are easy to navigate and relatively cheap compared to SFO. The signage on the outside of the terminal in not visible from the parking lot so it's tricky to…More »
This is a quaint home tucked into a quiet neighborhood a short walk from town and the beach. You can't quite see the sea but if you're on the sea side of the house you can sure hear the surf at night crashing on the beach. The hospitality is top…More »
Ah the Piccadilly Line, yes this is one of my usual routes and it's never let me down.
A little word about the tube in general: I usually avoid public transit when I'm in a new city in favour of walking or taking a cab. I have over the years realized…More »
Lovely home and warm hosts made this a welcome end to a long drive. The location was handy to the walks along the beach and some good restaurants and a short drive to the Aquarium.

For domestic flights I have learned to love Southwest. Their points system is simple, no need to do complex math, you fly 8 round trips in a 24 month period, they give you a round trip - anywhere. Simple. I use their visa card which gives me a point…More »

I stay at the Marriott hotels whenever there are no B&Bs in the area and they have generally been pretty good to me over the years. My husband was back in the "Rey" for business this week so I came down to check this one out.

If you're an islander the ferries are the bane of your existence. We never reserve unless we're attempting to travel on a really busy day (check the ferry traffic reports before you leave). The 9pm is hardly ever busy and is much quieter. If you…More »
At last, I finally found the perfect excuse to spend a night here. My husband and I were in town staying with family but were craving a little time on our own before the holiday inferno. I skimmed local hotel rates and was shocked by how affordable…More »

Some nice parts of this airport are the garages, departures check-in area and arrivals waiting area in the International terminal. The domestic terminal reminds me of the dilapidated airport in Rio de Janeiro with torn up carpet, low ceilings and…More »
We just stayed here on a one night trip to disneyland. Were were 5 adults, no kids and we are all physically fit so the short walk (15min) to the gate was not an issue for us.
We had what they call a "penthouse" which comfortably slept 6. We had a…More »

If we didn't have free access to the park through my husband's company we'd have never gone here at all and I wouldn't be a regular. Hard to imagine I was such a non-believer. Anyway, what's important now is that I'm in touch with my inner Disney…More »

Dining out in Victoria, BC (26)I've spent more than half my life here and am still a frequent visitor. Allow me to steer you away from the tourist crap and toward the best Victoria has to offer.WARNING LIST Aside from avoiding anything that faces the inner harbour, there are also a lot of chains that masquerade as restaurants which I would run from. Milestones, Cactus Club, The Keg, White Spot, Blenz, Smitty's, ABC, Earl's, Boston Pizza, Macaroni Grill |

What to eat in Marin County, California (31)Where to eat around Marin County. Mostly Fairfax, San Anselmo and San Rafael. It seems unlikely but Marin does have an amazing assortment of top notch restaurants tucked into some of the neighborhoods and villages. Probably something to do with the number of Chefs who want to call this home. Lucky us! |

Soy Lattes I have known (15)I am what you might call a soy latte connoisseur or snob. I dislike flavoured and sweetened soy in coffee. Imagine if a regular milk latte at Starbucks all of a sudden came pre-sweetened with vanilla flavouring... yes there would be blood. So why should soy drinkers be stuck with this sub-par coffee experience? This list is for the San Francisco Bay area. I also have a list for Victoria, BC. |
