This was definitely one of our best meals in Toronto. Wait time was minimal as we arrived early. We ordered drinks while waiting and were surprised at how low the prices were but soon discovered that was because there is next to zero alcohol in them.…More »

One of the biggest letdowns on the food scene.
What the hell is going on with people? How is it that a couple pieces of ham in between bread has gained a reputation as a sandwich to die for? What are all your tongues coated with? This is just salty…More »

Dim Sum
Neighbourhood: Downtown Core
Came here for dim sum and ordered the $45 a head set menu. Yes, it's $45 a person, I know. Get over it. It's a creative menu with extra touches you don't get in any standard Chinese dim sum selection. Wagyu beef, chunks of lobster, truffles, etc.

The Spadina House sits quietly in the background of Casa Loma. The experience here was actually much more enjoyable than the Casa Loma tour in some ways. First, the tours run on a schedule and are docented. You don't walk yourself through.…More »

First of all, to those who think this is a "museum of nothing", you are missing the point. It's a HOUSE MUSEUM. House museums are about architecture, interior design, and the lives of the inhabitants. Don't expect to see any sort of exhibit…More »

I'm not a beer drinker. Beer is the only thing one should come here for. We had dinner of poutine, sausages and schnitzel. This and two drinks really should not cost nearly $100, for what we got. I suppose the beer selection must be impressive, all…More »
Butter!!! Yum. It's hard to believe how much I enjoyed quiche, it was unlike any I have ever had before. The crust was flaky and the filling was wonderful. The onion tart dessert was also very French; I love butter and if you do I would highly…More »

Very good, freshly made dumplings. Siu lung bao were not the best I've had but I enjoy how everything is freshly made. I don't like how mainstream/white the place looks, but hey, oh well. No wait when we showed up, late afternoon. We also ordered…More »

They want to be fancy but it doesn't work. Great sounding menu of burgers but execution sucks and service may as well be self serve. I was eager to try a bison burger, and the hubbs got a six-cheese burger. His came out burning hot and mine came out…More »

Fancy-dancy from start to finish. The first thing I ate here was just bread and butter, but wow, way to set the bar with freaking roasted pear butter! Are you kidding, roasted pear butter?! I could have just eaten this like pudding and been happy as…More »

I've never stayed at a Westin before this, so I was excited.
I pre-booked a separate airport shuttle that has this place on its dropoff route. Check-in was easy, room was very nice indeed, and the bed is freaking awesome! Could do with a…More »

The staff here are definitely wanksters. Too wankster to say much without being spoken to first, but if you like salespeople to leave you alone then it's fine for you.
The hats: there are lots of hats here, and the tri-level store design makes for…More »
This was the easiest possible airport to hotel service and vice versa I've ever dealt with. Prices are fair, drivers are friendly, buses are comfortable and clean. Highly recommended. Just make sure your hotel is along their route.

What a lovely place to stop, rest and indulge while wandering through a patch of the not so densely populated Distillery area. Stepping inside here immediately brought back memories of the Jacques Torres experience - good thing you can…More »
Milk tea aka nai cha obsession (14)I don't know why but hk milk tea is very important to me. I have gotten to be a little bit of a snob about it. I can now make my own at home, and it is damn good! But I still love to try it wherever I go, so here are my nai cha adventures. |
Getting married!!! Chinese American style. (42)Here we go ... planning the big day.And the big day need NOT be a big credit card bill. So, here I am gathering all the options I am considering for my wedding, with affordability in mind. But it's not gonna look cheap or taste cheap. Remember, pyeng you leng. Not pyeng you chou yeng. I am out for the super steals. |
Dogs Allowed Here (10)Dango is my dog baby. He is a sweet goofy 50 lb pit bull who some people are afraid of (people that are trippin) and some people love. I've decided to test the waters and try to bring Dango in to non-dog related businesses and see what happens. This is a list of random places that don't hate on my dog baby. |
So incompetent it's almost funny. Almost. (14)Some people should just be fired, on the spot. This is where you find such people. |
My genealogy resources (10)I LOVE genealogy. I haven't brought myself to actually call myself a genealogist, but I know I love it and I can say "I do genealogy." Anyway, here are the places I use for digging for those roots. I do a lot of Chinese research, so this list may be especially helpful for those of you in the same boat. |
Fabulous Furniture (6)These are the furniture spots I like. Price and aesthetic are taken into consideration, though not always equally. Some are places I buy at and some at places I dream I could buy at. And some just help each other, like Sal Beressi fabrics for reupholstering the junk (treasure) I find on craigslist. |
