You have to know your way around World Class Bakers. First, avoid many of the things they make themselves. The bread is good (particularly their sourdough, which is very tastily sour, just they way I like it), and the croissants are delicious. The…More »
OK, I've decided. It is very dingy. Repaint, and I'll reconsider.

A small rift in the lute, as P.G. Wodehouse would say. I found CocoaLatte's basic breakfast unsatisfying. Was there too little butter on the toast? Was the breakfast too small? Were the slices of chorizo simply not doing it for me? Maybe it was…More »

If the Universal Grill were a little closer to my home, it would be my go-to for brunch with houseguests. This little place is equal parts attitude & food. I found the hipster vibe an eensy bit obtrusive, but the cheesy omelette is extraordinarily…More »
My lantern held high, I continue my search for the Perfect Breakfast Diner Within a Fifteen-Minute Walk From My Home. Alas, today was not the day.

Thai Thai Thai Love Love Love (13)How did Canadians live before Thai food? I know there was a dark age in the early eighties, before Satay on the Road opened, when one could hardly find a rice noodle in this town. Now, we're up to our necks in it - and lovely as it is to have so many options, if you're going to promise me Thai, you'd better make it flavourful. From worst to best, here is my celebration of this delicious supra-equatorial cuisine. |
Best food near Wychwood (8)After three and a half years in the area, these are my favourites. We're short on breakfast and I wish we had a good bar or pub, but man, can we ever do dinner! Most of these are budget options. If your idea of romance is $35 pastas, look elsewhere, but these are great places for dinner with friends - or with a special someone who prefers good food to tablecloths. Don't forget a sundae after: very romantic! |
Toronto Libraries (6)Toronto's got an awesome library system; here are the ones I know. |
Wedding Dress Day on the Danforth (4)On a rainy May morning, my Bride-to-Be friend and I set out for a last-ditch dress excursion for her September wedding. We kept to the Danforth: multiple dress store options and great restaurants for lunch. The last review refers to an earlier day. |
Book Shopping! (9)Toronto is a great place to overload your bookcases. From the classy to the seedy, these are my favourite stops: |
