Stanley Park could easily be considered one of the modern (although it was designed in 1888) marvels of urban planning. Vancouverites are so incredibly fortunate to have such a beautiful natural escape from the sprawling landscape of concrete and…More »
I'm sure you can guess the first thing I just had to check out upon my arrival in Miami Beach, right? If you said "see how soft my hotel bed was with a 2 hour nap" then you know me quite well. After all, I had just downed 2 heavy beers, a plate of…More »

There aren't many places I encounter that I feel are absolute must-sees for anyone. So many people have such different views on what is impressive, awe inspiring or just plain beautiful, but I feel like few people could possibly deny the overwhelming…More »
The fact I've lived in DC for over 3 years now and just made my first visit to the Botanic Gardens last Friday really taught me how much I've taken this wonderful city for granted. Of all the things I've seen since living here, this featured by far…More »
Forest Park is enchanting in every sense of the word. I only meant to spend just under an hour here, as the day was already full of activities, and wound up somewhere closer to 2 by the time I was done (including a 10 minute shoe cleaning). Passing…More »

The Lan Su Chinese Gardens are a beautiful, quaint setting to relax and get a feeling for traditional Chinese architecture and landscaping. Even though I went somewhat in between peak seasons (just after the Winter snows and before the Spring blooms)…More »

Farmers Market

How can you not love Eastern Market? I'm pretty sure it is the consensus favorite of all the local farmers markets, and there's a damn good reason why. It has everything!

One quick cab ride and I had left the high rises of downtown Miami for the other world across the bridge known as Miami Beach (or more specifically for me, South Beach). This famous land I had heard so much about was finally mine for perusal and the…More »

This place is amazing, although I almost never found it. It would have been a real shame to miss out too, as this is quite possibly the best meal offered in the state of Rhode Island. GPS doesn't exactly recognize the address, and the Yelp map…More »
Since the actual Wynwood Walls main area is only open certain times of day and parts of the year I wasn't able to fully investigate everything that was within the beautifully painted courtyard, however from what I could see I highly recommend you…More »
This is the best dog park I've found in the DC area, and one of the best I've seen in any metropolitan area. It's the newest of the dog parks in the Montgomery County park system, and you can tell they're definitely learning with each one they build.…More »

This has to be one of the best roads ever created (at least in the DC area).
I live right off Georgetown Pike, so this is a common route for me to get in or out of the city, and I almost never get any traffic at any time of day. I realize there are…More »
This little shop tucked into an alley can easily make a case as the best sandwiches in all of Miami Beach, and for me personally one of the best sandwiches I had all year, anywhere. It's a rare occasion when I wake up with a hangover and actually…More »
The Bloedel Floral Conservatory is a pretty amazing place; I cannot believe they almost had to shut down due to lack of funding. Actually, I can almost believe that, because I had a hell of a time finding it, despite knowing exactly where it was…More »
We decided to go to Great Waves on Labor Day, and damn it was packed! One of the first things I noticed was that the entire place is covered in astro turf where there isn't water. I guess it's better than cement, but it really sucks compared to…More »
The Shore Club, from what I could see somewhat late at night, was a really beautiful hotel that was unfortunately pretty deserted when Alex and I arrived. It's really hard to gauge the place based on that visit, so this is essentially a rating just…More »
I just got back from my weekly pilgrimage across the street to this farmers market and realized nobody had reviewed it yet! What a shame, this market is smaller than many of the more famous ones in DC, but they still put out some really good product…More »

After grabbing a nice big cup of coffee to go from my new favorite folks at Stumptown, I quickly drove over to get a glimpse at what downtown Portland looked like, by stopping to check out Pioneer Courthouse Square. It was suggested by several people…More »
This was an OK venue, nothing flashy and not quite a dump. I saw the 3 Doors Down + Staind show here from the 5th row, and had it not been such an awesome concert this score may have actually been a little lower. It's basically a bigger version of a…More »
Oh No They Didn't! (52)Avoid these places if you like any of the following things: your health, your safety, your money, your friends. You are very likely to lose any or all of the above by visiting them. These are the worst of the bad places I've been to, and you do not want to be on this list if you're a business (and somehow still IN business). |
InspirAsian (49)The continent of Asia provides us with a myriad of wonders from architecture to cuisine and everything in between. There are plenty of lists out there targeted to specific countries and their specialties, be it Thai peppers, Japanese noodles, or Chinese dim sum. I decided to make this list to share my favorite places that have ties to any part of the region, because sometimes we just want a little culture in our life, and aren't sure what we want but we know we want something new. |
I Need A Drink! (89)These places are focused in some way on the one thing we can almost all agree on, alcohol! Whether it be wine, beer or spirits that get you going, somewhere on this list is bound to have what you're looking for. |
Crafty Cocktails (48)When I stray away from my love of craft beer it's more often than not because the cocktail list is so appealing I just can't resist. I really appreciate bars that come up with their own unique mixes, and here are some of my favorites. |
Fancy Pants (52)Get dressed up before coming here, as these are the "nicest" places you can dine or go out (with no consideration given in this list to the actual food and/or drinks). If you're not looking spiffy here you might get some stares... |
More Than Just A Spud (45)I'm Irish, through and through. Some may think it's a stereotype that we love our potatoes, and they're right, but that doesn't mean it's not true. We put them in, on, and with almost everything we eat, and we love every bite. Somehow though, some people have found ways to screw up this most basic of vegetables, so I created this list to glorify those who truly pay homage to the lifeblood of my homeland. [Note: This list is more than just fries, although it is heavily favored in that that direction, but also includes places that do homemade chips, or homefries, as well as just great all-around potato dishes. It's also attempted to be somewhat ranked, with my favorites at the top.] |
Tapas Teasers or Palate Pleasers? (9)Is it a great way to share plates, or just an inevitable money-sink that leaves you hungry after? The small plate phenomenon is catching on quickly as kitchens realize they can make major bank by giving you little portions, but some places excel where others falter. |
No Walls Needed (66)Like the idea or not, mobile food is becoming more popular every month in major cities across our country. The lower cost of doing business, partly from no rental costs and typically self-employed labor, gives us quite often some very unique food ideas at relatively cheap costs compared to your standard restaurant. If you're going to venture out there and have something different, I suggest trying some of these places in your quest for ultimate food bliss. |
Seattle Standouts (9)From sun up to sun down I was pleased with so many aspects of the month I spent in Seattle. It was easily the freshest fish I had ever experienced, and the creative genes are flowing rampantly in the blood of its chefs. You can see all the high resolution photos of the trip here: http://www.flickr.com/... |
Simply The Best (72)My favorite places to have a very memorable meal. If there were ever any occasion that required dining on the best food possible, I would gladly have it at one of these restaurants. These restaurants do something special to set them apart from just my favorite places to eat, they provide you with a unique atmosphere or cuisine that is above and beyond just good food. |
"Yes, that is just a banana in my pocket, I love food."
