Vij's was the perfect finale to my day in Vancouver, and a real revelation on the art of Indian cuisine. I've tried a wealth of flavors since discovering how much I liked Indian food several years ago, even experimenting some at home, but nothing…More »

If you're dining in Boston and want to try something really different, then you've got to check out Oleana. It's rare to see places do pure Turkish cuisine, but to see them do it this well is truly a treat not to be missed. The decor matches the food…More »

I was so pleasantly surprised by this place. Having had quite a fill of amazing Greek style mezzes already this year, both straight from the source and made by my own hand after, I thought it would be a while before I was ready to revisit these…More »
One of the great benefits of having friends in virtually every neighborhood of DC is that you can always count on knowing where to go to have a good meal, no matter where you end up. Nicole and I found ourselves walking around near Howard after…More »
With the launch of their second truck, Benethiopia, the Fojol Brothers have solidified themselves in my mind as the premier food truck proprietors of the DC area. Sauca did launch a sister ship before them, but it offers the exact same cuisine as the…More »
I must admit my experience with kabob places is pretty limited (the typical Moby Dick and Amoo's fare), and I didn't even order kabobs when we came here for a Carnivore Crew mini-meating, but I have to give this place a huge recommendation for its…More »

Fojol Brothers traveling Merlindian sideshow is pretty much the epitome of what a great food truck business should be, and they happen to be one of the most fantastic lunch deals in town. In my opinion they offer the best quantity/quality ratio of…More »
Quite a number of the best meals in my life came courtesy of the fantastic chef and extremely cordial waitstaff at Blue. Whether for birthdays, work meetings, or just a desire for a nice night out Blue never disappointed, and they often outperformed…More »

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in shawarma, far from it, but I like to think my opinion on food trucks in general is at the very least well-informed, and based on that I can say this is one of the best values I've had in…More »
Honestly, if I hadn't just come back from Greece a couple months ago where gyros were more common than street cats (and there were a LOT of street cats), I'm pretty sure I would have given this place 5 stars. This place does a great job in my mind of…More »
Taking a page from the numerous Halal meat carts that line up and down around the Rosslyn Metro stop, the new Halal Gyro Plus truck offers a very generous lunch portion for just $7 (or less if you just want the sandwich). Today was their soft launch,…More »

The second verse, same as the first, but this time it came just a little less rehearsed. Our language tends to be more obtuse than others, and thus we're left with words or phrases that can often mean multiple things simultaneously. It turns out…More »

This is a cute little restaurant tucked away on a pass-through street in a quickly developing area of Alexandria just between Old Town and Del Ray. The food isn't quite spectacular enough to warrant a visit from far away, but…More »

This is a nice little Pita shop on the outskirts of Tyson's Corner. I'm guessing it's some kind of chain, but it has that indie-owned feel to it. The owner/manager was really nice, and gave me a few recommendations.

Our ensemble of Yelpers arrived at Nando's during prime dinner hours on a Friday night, sometime around 8pm, and were told we would have to wait about 15 minutes for a table to open up. This seemed pretty reasonable to me, as there were over 10 of…More »
Well, there are opening day mistakes for almost any business, but then there's a total disaster like what happened with Kraving Kabob's customer flow, dealing primarily with their seemingly unrehearsed ordering system. As someone who's witnessed…More »
Oh No They Didn't! (52)Avoid these places if you like any of the following things: your health, your safety, your money, your friends. You are very likely to lose any or all of the above by visiting them. These are the worst of the bad places I've been to, and you do not want to be on this list if you're a business (and somehow still IN business). |
InspirAsian (49)The continent of Asia provides us with a myriad of wonders from architecture to cuisine and everything in between. There are plenty of lists out there targeted to specific countries and their specialties, be it Thai peppers, Japanese noodles, or Chinese dim sum. I decided to make this list to share my favorite places that have ties to any part of the region, because sometimes we just want a little culture in our life, and aren't sure what we want but we know we want something new. |
I Need A Drink! (89)These places are focused in some way on the one thing we can almost all agree on, alcohol! Whether it be wine, beer or spirits that get you going, somewhere on this list is bound to have what you're looking for. |
Crafty Cocktails (48)When I stray away from my love of craft beer it's more often than not because the cocktail list is so appealing I just can't resist. I really appreciate bars that come up with their own unique mixes, and here are some of my favorites. |
Fancy Pants (52)Get dressed up before coming here, as these are the "nicest" places you can dine or go out (with no consideration given in this list to the actual food and/or drinks). If you're not looking spiffy here you might get some stares... |
More Than Just A Spud (45)I'm Irish, through and through. Some may think it's a stereotype that we love our potatoes, and they're right, but that doesn't mean it's not true. We put them in, on, and with almost everything we eat, and we love every bite. Somehow though, some people have found ways to screw up this most basic of vegetables, so I created this list to glorify those who truly pay homage to the lifeblood of my homeland. [Note: This list is more than just fries, although it is heavily favored in that that direction, but also includes places that do homemade chips, or homefries, as well as just great all-around potato dishes. It's also attempted to be somewhat ranked, with my favorites at the top.] |
Tapas Teasers or Palate Pleasers? (9)Is it a great way to share plates, or just an inevitable money-sink that leaves you hungry after? The small plate phenomenon is catching on quickly as kitchens realize they can make major bank by giving you little portions, but some places excel where others falter. |
No Walls Needed (66)Like the idea or not, mobile food is becoming more popular every month in major cities across our country. The lower cost of doing business, partly from no rental costs and typically self-employed labor, gives us quite often some very unique food ideas at relatively cheap costs compared to your standard restaurant. If you're going to venture out there and have something different, I suggest trying some of these places in your quest for ultimate food bliss. |
Seattle Standouts (9)From sun up to sun down I was pleased with so many aspects of the month I spent in Seattle. It was easily the freshest fish I had ever experienced, and the creative genes are flowing rampantly in the blood of its chefs. You can see all the high resolution photos of the trip here: http://www.flickr.com/... |
Simply The Best (72)My favorite places to have a very memorable meal. If there were ever any occasion that required dining on the best food possible, I would gladly have it at one of these restaurants. These restaurants do something special to set them apart from just my favorite places to eat, they provide you with a unique atmosphere or cuisine that is above and beyond just good food. |
