I've lived near this intersection for 20 years, but I only set foot in this place in the past year. I used to shop at the giant loblaws at vic park and gerrard, but few things about that place began to bug me so I decided I needed an alternative.…More »

I gotta admit, I only approach the steak counter at Royal Beef on very special occasions, because although they are the best steaks in the city, they are priced accordingly. However, they also have great sliced deli meats, cheeses, chicken and…More »

How much of a coffee snob am I? Sooo much that I actually roast my own beans every couple of days. So I usually just grin and bare it when i have coffee out. But Cake Town has really excellent coffee. They also have scones that are so good, I now…More »
I love this place. I started by getting my bulk stuff there, but everytime I checked out, the total was under $10. I thought about another bulk store that used to be in the neighbourhood and how it didn't survive and thought "I don't want this to…More »

Great store. This place is really helping the neighbourhood come up scale a bit. I really like the store itself, the selection and the people that work there. I hope it will around for many years to come.

I recently brought in a crappy solid top yamaha dreadnaught that I've been abusing for many years. It had what I thought was string buzz. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it on the spot. No charge. That's sweet.
I've also bought strings,…More »
Hopefully, it's just early in the season and things will improve, but so far I'm not nearly as impressed this year as I was last year. They've changed the layout but not for the better. This year the vendors are all down at the bottom of the hill -…More »
Okay, maybe it's a bit early in the year to start thinking about seasonal farmer's markets, but it… Read more »
In June of 2012, Peter will be celebrating 50 years of cutting hair in this shop just off the Danforth. So how come I'm the ftr? Come to think of it, how is that I just noticed his shop last week when I've lived in the neighbourhood for over 20…More »
The Kilt and Harp recently opened in the neighbourhood. It's a great place for folks in this part of town to start or cap an evening of Danforth pub crawling. The pub still has a bit of a fresh paint atmosphere, but I think it will settle in…More »
Restaurants My Mother Would Like (8)Looking back on some reviews, I noticed a theme concerning restaurants that I thought were too staid and unadventurous for my liking. I've taken my mother to Dim Sum and to Grossman's, but only for the shock value. She didn't eat anything at Dim Sum and let's not even discuss Grossman's. Anyways, these are places that I think she would enjoy. Maybe I should take her to one of these places to make it up to her. |
Lunch in the Banker's Bunkers (11)Lunch is a battlefield in the various food courts beneath the towers of King and Bay. After years in the skirmish, here's my battle-hardened recommendations and a few I warn against. |
Reviews I wish people had read (3)Looking back on my reviews, I notice that some of my favourites received zero feedback. So here they are in list form. |
