I didn't do myself a favor by going here after a late brunch at Zero Zero. I was still a bit full so I ordered differently than I would have otherwise.

Finally got a chance to revisit this spot, being so hard to secure reservations. But we were hungry at 10pm so we got a rezzy easily.
We started with the mint chitarra pasta, which was nice and light, perfect with the dungeness crab. The pasta itself…More »

Small space in the Mission, serving excellent Italian fare.
We shared a few apps but my favorite was the chicken liver crostini alla toscana. I'm a big fan of chicken liver, but especially when the liver flavor is nice and subtle, and here they do it…More »

Am I the only one who expected the "frites" here to be thin and crispy? The order came out and it's basically steak fries and refrigerated flavored mayo. Go to Luka's Taproom in Oakland and get some proper Belgian frites. The trio of sauces there…More »

The famed bacon maple glazed apple donut was pretty good, Chris Cosentino guarantees you can't get a better donut. I wasnt too fond of the chocolate anise donut though.
This walkup space also does coffee and espresso.
4 stars for making a bacon donut.More »
Excellent Tacos Al Pastor, served from the spit! However, the green salsa is thicker and creamier at the Oakland branch. Or is it a branch? The worker said they weren't related. 5 stars for the tasty pastor goodness.

Anthony Bourdain stopped by this cafe while he was in SF. They make an awesome maple bacon latte, which is smoky, salty and sweet. Careful you don't choke on the tiny bits of bacon though.
Their other flavored lattes are pretty interesting.

I took a sausage making class here with Chef Ryan Farr, who's been making headlines for his awesome chicharrones. We came out with 5 lbs of three delicious types of subtle, refined seasoned sausage.

Loved the pupusas and the filet. Great beer as well, we had a big bottle of "Regia" I believe. Nice casual ambience. The waitresses are very engaging and enjoyable.
I had a slice of cheese here and the crust is definitely NYC thin. But the sauce was lacking, and they didn't bake it hot enough either so it was so so for me. I like A Slice of New York in Santa Clara better.
Better than Zachary's for 2 reasons:
1. Crust
2. Tomato Sauce
The crust is much crispier than Zachary's doughy pie, due to the cornmeal crust and a proper baking time & temperature. Little Star's tomato sauce is definitely less tangy than Zachary's, and…More »
Hmmm... I thought this was the best place in SF for shawarmas? I came on Friday so I ordered the lone shawarma option, chicken. I watched as they made the wrap.. onions, and a whole lot of em; chicken, tomatoes and parsley, and a few squeezes of…More »

Go for Happy Hour. $2 Sake, $2 Kirin, $3 Handrolls. The hamachi handroll is excellent! The toro nigiri was delicious! I'm still buzzin from the sake =)
I love the steamed sea bass here. It's melt in your mouth tender with a perfect sauce, I end up scooping it all over my rice. The Vietnamese crepe (chicken/shrimp) is excellent as well. The imperials rolls rival my favorite version at PPQ, a tad…More »

Two words: Coffee Toffee!! Perfect temperature, perfect texture, perfect FLAVOR! All I kept saying was, "this is sooo good!"
5 stars!
Overpriced, overhyped. Tacos for yuppies, I would say. Why don't they have al pastor, the benchmark of taquerias? Cheese in the tacos was a bit much. I like mine plain and simple. Meat, onions and cilantro, just like in Mexico!
Dammit I think I went to the wrong one since the one on 22nd seems to be rated higher. But I was in the neighborhood when I spotted the truck, so I had to stop and try the taco al pastor. The pork pieces could have been more tender but the…More »

Great place for groups, we had a holiday party here and did the set menu. For $19.95, you get a huge amount of food, and don't miss the $15 all you can drink sangria or beer on tap. The kitchen gave us extras as well. All the food was well cooked,…More »
My drip coffee was poured from a thermos, and tasted highly acidic. Hardly comparable or even close to Blue Bottle. Maybe the espresso is better?

Pho Quest (54)I appreciate a good pho broth. A broth more about the essence of the beef bones it was cooked with a light undertone of onions to complement and slightly sweeten the broth. I'm not too keen on too much anise or cloves, the less the better. This perfectly balanced pho broth should induce you to eat slowly, appreciating the savory goodness, and drink the broth to the last drop.... Oh yeah, fresh beef is a must! |
Taquerias (53)A few taquerias in the Bay that I've tried. As you can see my benchmark is "Al Pastor", marinated pork cooked on a spit. But some places don't actually use a spit anymore - sacrilege! |
