Unfortunately, I have to drop my rating by a star based on my last meal here. It just wasn't as good as it used to be. I would give that last meal 3 stars, but since I rarely get to eat here anymore I will give Asahi the benefit of a doubt.…More »
My favorite ramen house is Asahi. When in LA, I will do everything possible to stop here for a… Read more »
Yaki onigiri with salmon and salmon roe, shrimp-stuffed shiitake mushroom caps, and numerous other great dishes abound in the San Jose Tanto. The clam ramen is a bit too rich for my taste, but if you like buttery broth, this one is for you. This…More »
Four stars for the best champon ramen noodles around! Champon is a type of noodle dish originating from Nagasaki, made by frying pork, seafood and vegetables in a wok, and boiling the noodles in the soup directly. Izakaya's champon is in a…More »

It's the season for warmth-inducing ramen and thanks to my +1's suggestion to fill up prior to the Yelp Unwrapped! Holiday Party we walked up to Katana-Ya. By some stroke of luck we managed to walk right in and sit down at a table for 2. We had the…More »

I stayed at my brother's place recently for seven nights. Imagine all the great restaurants we could have gone to, to get me caught up on the LA gourmet scene! Well, we cooked at home two of those seven nights, and splurged at Katsu-ya the last…More »
Great noodles, delicious broth. Everything here tastes home-made and authentic. Each one in our group of 5 pretty much ordered different dishes, and we shared family-sisters-style (reach over and grab whatever you want) and liked it all! As others…More »

The night before taking the MCAT, I carbed up on a huge plate of fried rice at Ramenya. However, they do serve great ramen, and the one with the omelette and gravy on top is surprisingly tasty.
Lunch buddy and his sidekick, yours truly, tried out the shoyu ramen, spicy sesame ramen, and the spicy fried chicken. As others mention, the thin noodles such as the ones that showed up in the shoyu ramen were a bit strange, but the broth was…More »
Decent ramen at okay prices...the texture of the noodles is great, if on the thin side. Kuro is yummy, but my favorite is the Maruichi Special with mentaiko in the smooth Tonkotsu broth. We come here after work often because hubby likes the white…More »
Flavor was good, but the food came out cold. Perhaps this was because my lunch buddy and I arrived for a late lunch -- but the grilled shiitake mushrooms had been off the grill for a long time and the toppings in my ramen seemed to have come right…More »

This ramen house is popular with the locals in the neighborhood, and offers a variety of combo deals. Yokohama's ramen, yaki soba, fried rice and clear broth with green onions are pretty good -- especially when you just don't want to wait in line at…More »
Tried the pan-fried dumplings and a couple of the non-soup-based noodle dishes (sesame and black bean). Dumplings are average quality; I suppose you could say you're paying for the convenience of not having to make them at home. The ramen has a…More »
So much has been said, we probably don't need more for Himawari. However, my 2 cents: okay ramen, okay broth, pretty good appetizers, service could use improvement, and I'm still looking for the incredible ramen place in the Bay Area where I would…More »
You don't really get the traditional big bowl of ramen at Orenchi Ramen. While the prices seem reasonable, the portions are smaller than usual. I'm not a fan of the fatty broth and fatty pork, but the noodles were excellent. The soft egg is, as…More »
I only have two items to base this review on...the volcano roll which was excellent and the ramen which is not going on my "list of things to get next time." Service, decor and noise level at Ozuma need improvement. Will update when I've had a…More »
I concur fully with Joni L. It may be that the broth is meant to be fatty, but that makes it hard for me to polish off an entire bowl. Try it at least once to see if it suits your style.
I've given Santa one too many chances and still have not found what everyone is raving about. There is so much fat in all the different soup flavors that I haven't been able to finish a single serving. One star for the pretty good noodles and one…More »

Reasonable South Bay Dining Options (36)Places you can visit regularly for decent meals without breaking the bank. |
In Search of the Perfect Cupcake (20)I cannot possibly try all the new cupcakeries that are popping up all over the place; I would be fatter than high school Monica on Friends. But here are some places I've tried. |
Best Places to 'Cruz (4)Where I like to go when I have the chance to get over the hill! |
Late Night Places (6)In search of places to eat after 9:00 pm, these are the restaurants where we often end up. |
O Canada (13)It could be the refreshing mountain air, the high altitude, or the fact that Canadian cooks are often of European descent. I found Rocky Mountain cuisine to be above-average delicious and the bread served at every restaurant was unique and awesome. |
Sherri's Bay Area Sushi and Sashimi Experiences (59)Fresh fish is not a luxury, but a must-have, and after downing this staple at least two or three times a week, I still don't have as extensive a list as I should. Maybe I need to up my intake frequency... |
The One-Star List (14)Most of the time I don't want to bother writing about the one-stars and when I do, it's probably because I wished I could give the place no stars or negative star ratings! |
So Much to Do with So Little Time in Vegas... (48)I've gone to Vegas so often you'd think I'd be bored of it, but every time I visit it is usually for a company event or tradeshow with not much time to check things out. Also, the Strip seems to be in a constant state of new construction so it's never quite the same each time. |
Palo Alto Places (18)Some of my favorite places in PA to eat or hang out... |
