Wow am I impressed. Ok, first off even though I'm giving Pieology 5 stars, I'm not saying it's on a Lombardi's in New York kind of level. As in it's not the very best thin crust pizza in the country or anything. But for SoCal, for a made to order…More »

South Florida, where to eat. (16)

Since I spent my first 30 years in Florida and I keep going back to visit family, I kind of have this south florida eating thing down.  Now one place is SO great, it's not in South Florida, but I'm going to include it on this list anyway.  Bern's Steakhouse is in Tampa.  I believe that everyone needs to eat there at some point in their life, and if you are driving around the state, you might find yourself within 100 miles of Bern's.  Yes, it's worth driving 100 miles each way for dinner there.  So if you are going up to Orlando to Disney, take the 70 mile drive over to Bern's, you'll thank me.

Vegas Baby Vegas (7)

You want places to eat in Vegas that are money baby?  This is the list for you.  Some aren't on the strip and are so money that they don't even know it.  Follow this list and baby you're going to be up five hundy pounds by midnight.

Best Cold Cut Subs (18)

Cold subs and hot subs are two different animals.  So this is my list of best cold cut subs.  I consider myself a sub connoisseur and have been enjoying subs long before I've been yelping about them.  While I know I got a good sub here and there, if the details aren't fresh, I'm not going to write about them, thus they aren't on the list.

Great and Cheap in the OC (28)

I rarely talk about price in my reviews.  I can enjoy a $150 meal as much as a $10 one wihtout it bothering me too much.  However I just bought a new house, so that means a higher mortgage, and now I'm going to find my dining budget slashed a little bit.  But there are plenty of places to get great food for under $10, and now I'll just hit those a little more often than before.  So here's my list for best OC dining for $10 or less.  To make this list, most items on the menu must be under $10, not just a few.  I haven't really listed sub shops, because 1. I have another list for that, 2. Even the most expensive subs are going to be under $10 anyway, and 3. I will never condone eating a $5 footlong.  There are also a couple of 3 stars on this list, because when you take price into account, you have to bump them up a star for sure.  I mean at Pollo de Oro you can get like 32 chickens for $1 or something and it's good.

Dishonest Dukes and Duchesses. (5)

Some people just can't play the check in game right and ruin it for the rest of us.  Becoming a Duke or Duchess should be earned.    If you have like 50 check ins at 25 different places, you are cheating.  There are only so many meals in the day.  I have to laugh at these people, who take a silly little game and cheat at it.  Nothing better to do with their time I guess.  They are most likely checking in as they are driving around.   Just what we need, more people playing with their cell phones behind the wheel.  So congrats Duke/ Duchess cheater, you've made my list.  1 star for you.

Best SoCal Deli (10)

I haven't hit them all.  And like all Delis, somethings are better than others.  So these are just my overall rankings.  And I've only listed full service , sit down restaurant style delis, so you won't find Tommy Pastrami on here.  I'll drag my reviews over when I have done reviews on all of them.

1. Brent's - Northridge
2. Langer's - Los Angeles
3. Sherman's - Palm Springs
4. Canter's - Hollywood
5. Nate 'n Al's - Beverly Hills
6. Jerry's Famous - Marina Del Rey
7. Jerry's Famous - Costa Mesa
8. Benjie's - Santa Ana
9. Katella - Los Alamitos
10. Greenblatt's - Hollywood
11. Izzy's - Santa Monica

Lunch for Breakfast (31)

Who says you have to eat eggs and pancakes for breakfast.  So where do you go if you want Hamburgers, Fried Chicken, Italian Subs, Pho, Mexican Food, Salads, Rueben Sandwiches, or even Sushi at 9am?  This list will show you the way....not ranked in any particular order, but full menu available by 9 am.

No Bathroom For You! (5)

I have a 4 year old.  When she says, Daddy I need to go to the bathroom, that means now.  Lately I've found a few businesses that won't let you use their bathroom, even if you are a paying customer.  My daughter looks at me strangely when people say no.  And rightly so.   Now every place has a bathroom for their employees, ask them if they have to go across the street to the gas station to wash their hands or do their business and they'll say no.  They just aren't willing to share their bathroom with their paying customers.  So here's a list of places that has flat out said No to using their bathroom after I've spent money (or in the case of Bank of America, holds all of my money).

Best Steakhouse (5)

Oh how I'm missing a bunch of reviews for this list.  The Chicago Chop House was too long ago, for me to remember enough specific details.  But they deserve to be on here.  Same with Shula's in Miami.  I guess I'll have to go back sometime so I can write reveiws.  But from memory..I'll go with
1. Berns - Tampa, FL
2. Cut - Beverly Hills, CA
3. Peter Lugers - Brooklyn, NY
4. Chicago Chop House - Chicago, IL
5. Shula's Steakhouse - Miami, FL (before it was a chain)
6. Nicholson's Farmhouse - Havana, FL
7. Pacific Dining Car - Los Angeles, CA
8. Flemings - Newport Beach, CA
9. Mastro's - Costa Mesa, CA
10. Ruth's Chris - Wherever, USA
11. Morton's - Wherever, USA
