This was the first restaurant I went to on my recent trip to Montreal. I went there because I had been dying for hot pot, and boy did I get it! IT was just about all I could ask for. And it may seem strange to go to an Asia restaurant first thing…More »
One of our best meals in Montreal was at Bocata. This hole in the wall place, which is a bit dark and warm in summer, served up some creative and interesting food. Plus, the service was nice and some great wine was to be had.
As one of the other…More »
Came here based on the yelp reviews. Seems like Mai Xiang Yuan and Qing Hua are the two places in town people like to go for dumplings so had to try both (will post Qing Hua review later).
We tried the pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings and the…More »
Tucked on a side street just off Rue Guy was this little delight. From the yelp reviews I knew I had to try it on my recent trip to Montreal. I went there with dumplings on my mind and nothing else. Almost as soon as we sat down a pot of tea…More »

Get into town, get checked in and then come here for a beer. That's what I did and I don't regret it. This is a great little joint with lots of good beer and a great dark atmosphere. Not sure how it would go in the winter but it was a perfect…More »
This place turned out to be a real gem. I found it by accident on google maps and the price was right, the location was good for what we wanted to do, it was close to the metro, all things I figured out from the web page and google. I was surprised…More »
I fell in love with this market in about 3 seconds. Just so you know, this place is way better than atwater market. Get on the metro and go!

It is sort of funny, the day we were supposed to leave for Montreal, the weird foods guy on the travel channel went here. So I quickly found out how to find it and get there. It was worth the trip. But I'm also amused by why there isn't a line out…More »
Very nice staff and owners. One of the few places in this part of town that seemed open early on the weekends. Some good coffee and teas. Pastries were fresh and tasty. Just a nice quick in and out with a friendly smile.
Maybe it is because I had higher expectations for Modavie based on other yelp reviews, but this place is a solid 3 star and I was a little disappointed as my expectations weren't met. Good but not great. Reviews says it isn't really a touristy…More »

Yes, It has a cool art deco building. Yes, there are some interesting meat and fish stalls, but I was still under whelmed by what I saw at the atwater market. Maybe I was spoiled by the Jean Talon market, which I loved and had much better produce.…More »
We first stopped into Le Petit Moulinsart for an afternoon beer after wandering. Sitting out in their little back courtyard is a very nice way to spend the heat of the afternoon. Especially with a good beer, which they certainly have plenty of.

Our second day in Montreal we wanted to try something different for breakfast. Meaning, not a chain, and not just pastries and coffee/tea. We had spied this place the other day and it looked intriguing, although the menu out front wasn't totally…More »
I suspected this was a chain. And i should have went screaming in the other direction instead of having breakfast here. But hadn't really checked out the area by the hotel yet, and when you are starving for breakfast you'll make crazy choices.
