Let me be clear, this property isn't just nice "for a Marriott", it's one of the nicer hotels I've ever stayed in, and probably in my top 10, and if you factor in value definitely in the top 5. The fact this hotel offers a government rate (if rooms…More »
My flight didn't arrive into Miami until rather late, and since it just so happened to be opening weekend of the college football season, with two premiere matchups being televised that night, I had to rush straight from my hotel to somewhere I knew…More »

Before heading down to Miami I solicited a few people from there on places I should check out to really get a feel for where the locals go...places that are a little less easy to get to for tourists, and most likely in…More »
I was told by many people that one of the things I absolutely must try while in Miami was a slice from Pizza Rustica. Using a general consensus, and going against my own mental judgment, I took them up on the suggestion on my very first night, after…More »
Sometimes you just completely click with a bar, and you know that were it anywhere else in the world you would have that same draw, because it's just that perfect, for you. Such was almost instantly the case for me and The DRB, with its booklet of…More »
Much to my surprise, there really aren't many "late" night dining options in Miami after 9PM on a Sunday. After spending almost all day drinking at DRB I had already missed my chance to grab dinner at CVI.CHE 105, so I hustled home and pulled up…More »

I can see the appeal of this place for locals, and that was in fact exactly how I heard about it. Pretty much everyone I talked to said I needed to visit this little dive bar, which is apparently the…More »

This was supposed to be my first real "Wow!" food moment in Miami, which it sadly fell just short of. It was still fantastic, without any real noticeable flaws, but not quite all that I had hoped for. DC, where I live, is greatly…More »
Since the actual Wynwood Walls main area is only open certain times of day and parts of the year I wasn't able to fully investigate everything that was within the beautifully painted courtyard, however from what I could see I highly recommend you…More »
I was sworn to secrecy about the events that transpired here by the two lovely Latin baristas behind the counter...but I don't live in Miami, so I have no fear of them hunting me down, and even if I did I can't say I would be totally opposed to that.…More »
This restaurant was recommended to me by a few local friends, as well as being featured on the "Heat Seekers" TV show in its first season, so I was pretty sure I could at least find a few things on the menu to intrigue me. While I never did get the…More »
Oh Sugarcane, why did I not come to you first instead of Mercadito? Your food offerings seem so much more appealing, but I was already so full from food and regret. Still, I could not resist your beautiful entryway and secret looking garden patio (…More »

One quick cab ride and I had left the high rises of downtown Miami for the other world across the bridge known as Miami Beach (or more specifically for me, South Beach). This famous land I had heard so much about was finally mine for perusal and the…More »
I'm sure you can guess the first thing I just had to check out upon my arrival in Miami Beach, right? If you said "see how soft my hotel bed was with a 2 hour nap" then you know me quite well. After all, I had just downed 2 heavy beers, a plate of…More »
It was my first night down in Miami Beach, away from the relative normalcy that encompasses downtown Miami, and Alexandra and Andy wasted no time in getting me acclimated to the crazy scene here. SUSHISAMBA's Tuesday night party was certainly unlike…More »
We popped in here for maybe an hour, tops, but that was more than enough to get an overall vibe of the place, even if it was early and relatively dead by their standards. Alex and Andy were good friends with one of the promoters, and since we were…More »
This is a really great spot to get your Cuban fix in if you happened to miss it on the "mainland", and it also makes for wonderful hangover recovery food. I've got to admit, as I saw the locals loading up plate after plate of delicious looking meat…More »
I had most certainly been eating quite well before, but The Dining Room provided my first real "wow" food experience in Miami. It's always great to visit a restaurant just as they're hitting their stride of success, and you could tell this place was…More »
Abraxas is definitely one of those bars that people go to when they want a taste of the local scene in Miami Beach, although as more and more people learn of it through outlets like this that will surely change. I actually heard about it from the…More »
The Room is one of those rare bars that absolutely delivers on the promise of its name, as it is quite clearly -a room-. Although, I suppose, as a matter of correctness there is also a bathroom, which looks eerily reminiscent of some scene that would…More »

This was, without a doubt, my favorite food of my whole time in Miami. Unfortunately my dining companion felt the exact opposite, but she's vegetarian, so that should tell you how awesome it is for carnivores. It's not that there aren't vegetable…More »
The Shore Club, from what I could see somewhat late at night, was a really beautiful hotel that was unfortunately pretty deserted when Alex and I arrived. It's really hard to gauge the place based on that visit, so this is essentially a rating just…More »
Sky Bar is one of the actual bars located inside the Shore Club, and the only one that was open when Alexandra and I popped in to take a quick tour of the outside area. I think all the lounge stuff may technically be related to Sky Bar, but since I…More »
This is the little "neighborhood" dive-ish, but not quite, bar that so many others strive to be. It's so over the top embracing of eccentric culture that it becomes cool for it, and you soak it up and sit it in like it's old hat. Folks from DC might…More »
There really isn't much of significance worth noting about Yogo other than the fact that it seems to exist as a hangover remedy for most people in this area near Collins. Essentially, this review is to assure you that you can eat the food here…More »

Oh No They Didn't! (52)Avoid these places if you like any of the following things: your health, your safety, your money, your friends. You are very likely to lose any or all of the above by visiting them. These are the worst of the bad places I've been to, and you do not want to be on this list if you're a business (and somehow still IN business). |
InspirAsian (49)The continent of Asia provides us with a myriad of wonders from architecture to cuisine and everything in between. There are plenty of lists out there targeted to specific countries and their specialties, be it Thai peppers, Japanese noodles, or Chinese dim sum. I decided to make this list to share my favorite places that have ties to any part of the region, because sometimes we just want a little culture in our life, and aren't sure what we want but we know we want something new. |
I Need A Drink! (89)These places are focused in some way on the one thing we can almost all agree on, alcohol! Whether it be wine, beer or spirits that get you going, somewhere on this list is bound to have what you're looking for. |
Crafty Cocktails (48)When I stray away from my love of craft beer it's more often than not because the cocktail list is so appealing I just can't resist. I really appreciate bars that come up with their own unique mixes, and here are some of my favorites. |
Fancy Pants (52)Get dressed up before coming here, as these are the "nicest" places you can dine or go out (with no consideration given in this list to the actual food and/or drinks). If you're not looking spiffy here you might get some stares... |
More Than Just A Spud (45)I'm Irish, through and through. Some may think it's a stereotype that we love our potatoes, and they're right, but that doesn't mean it's not true. We put them in, on, and with almost everything we eat, and we love every bite. Somehow though, some people have found ways to screw up this most basic of vegetables, so I created this list to glorify those who truly pay homage to the lifeblood of my homeland. [Note: This list is more than just fries, although it is heavily favored in that that direction, but also includes places that do homemade chips, or homefries, as well as just great all-around potato dishes. It's also attempted to be somewhat ranked, with my favorites at the top.] |
Tapas Teasers or Palate Pleasers? (9)Is it a great way to share plates, or just an inevitable money-sink that leaves you hungry after? The small plate phenomenon is catching on quickly as kitchens realize they can make major bank by giving you little portions, but some places excel where others falter. |
No Walls Needed (66)Like the idea or not, mobile food is becoming more popular every month in major cities across our country. The lower cost of doing business, partly from no rental costs and typically self-employed labor, gives us quite often some very unique food ideas at relatively cheap costs compared to your standard restaurant. If you're going to venture out there and have something different, I suggest trying some of these places in your quest for ultimate food bliss. |
Seattle Standouts (9)From sun up to sun down I was pleased with so many aspects of the month I spent in Seattle. It was easily the freshest fish I had ever experienced, and the creative genes are flowing rampantly in the blood of its chefs. You can see all the high resolution photos of the trip here: http://www.flickr.com/... |
Simply The Best (72)My favorite places to have a very memorable meal. If there were ever any occasion that required dining on the best food possible, I would gladly have it at one of these restaurants. These restaurants do something special to set them apart from just my favorite places to eat, they provide you with a unique atmosphere or cuisine that is above and beyond just good food. |
"Yes, that is just a banana in my pocket, I love food."
