Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Corn.

I just grabbed lunch at Pasta P, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The gents behind the counter were friendly and helpful and the food came out so fast that I thought they must have the wrong table.
The bread and butter was generic yet appreciated, but…More »

There was a roach in my tortilla chips today. The manager was entirely nonplussed when I asked for a new basket of chips and didn't even apologize. Still the best burritos in town for the price.

This cafe is a hidden gem. I'm still here because I couldn't leave without filing a review.
I was just looking for a place where I could go online, have a drink and get some things checked off my to-do list between home in Chinatown and work on New…More »

Still the best fries in the city and still only $2. They serve them salted and peppered, which puts them over the top, and there are 2 kinds of hot sauce available for dipping, but I wish their ketchup was better quality.

As far as fast food goes, this is one of my favorites. Ridiculously quick turnaround between ordering and being served, good, although often tough steak sandwiches, self-serve soda, and fried onion strings to die for on the sandwich or as a side.
I…More »

When I used to walk down Montgomery to get from Chinatown home to work, Deli & was one of my regular bagel stops, and still when I wander north of Market on a leisurely lunch I stop in. I've eaten a lot of bagels in the financial district, and I've…More »

Good spot for lunch in the FiDi. Despite a line that streams out the door, it usually only takes a few minutes to get seated. The food is good and comes out quickly. Prices are fine and the decor is nice. I've had one ass of a waiter here, but I…More »
Still the best tasting bagels I've found in the city, but the guy behind the counter needs to stop smoking crack. Let's look at a transcript of this morning's order:

Good concept, good prices, great food. One fatal flaw: lousy service.
From someone who loves little more than the occasional chicken fried steak smothered in gravy, I would probably pass it up for the healthy vegan fare at Medicine.

Decent burgers and fresh-cut fries (the curly ones are frozen though). I got the Texas Burger with bacon, cheese, jalapenos and BBQ sauce and some fries. The meat is advertised as the all-natural stuff, so I feel good about that, and you can watch…More »

Overpriced. Ugly interior. Mediocre service. Bland grey food. There is no good reason to go here.

For the price, it is shameful how bad the food is. Ok, so I have only been here once and would normally not comment unless I have given it a couple tries, but damn, I will not be going back any time soon.

A perfect day on Haight... (9)...starts with Chicken Fried Steak and eggs for breakfast at Pork Store and then purchasing fake mustaches at Cheap Thrills to wear out for a little shopping and tourist teasing around Haight Ashbury. Then we would take a nice long walk down to Cafe International and spend the rest of the morning drinking coffee and chatting on the back patio (mustaches optional). Lunch would be served at Ploy II or El Balazo depending on our mood and then we could waste the afternoon exploring and listening to music at Amoeba. Dinner at Citrus Club followed by an art opening/excuse to hang out in a toy store at Giant Robot, and a couple of PBRs or a Spa Collins and live jazz in a booth at Club Deluxe. On the way home, we would see a "Going Out Of Business" sign on the McDonald's at Haight and Stanyan and all would be right with the world. |
