Without a doubt, the most impressive restaurant I have been to on the Upper West Side (and perhaps in all of the city).
At 7:00 on a Friday there was no wait for 3 of us. We were led to the basement (woody, romantic, and warm, with a visible wine…More »
This is a dinner review-- not brunch, and not crazy night of drinking.
I have walked by this place so many times and felt some weird magnetic draw to it, so when my friend and I went out to dinner we decided to check it out.
First of all, the servers…More »
They are so nice here!
Locksmith is teeny tiny, but it's cutely designed with old/new pictures of Washington Heights and feels very comfortable. And while it's a technically a wine bar, they have great beer and mixed drink happy hour deals ($3).…More »

Yep-- the pickle backs are awesome.
It was much nicer when my group of friends scored a table in the back corner-- less of a Lion King stampede experience!

I love coming here for Monday or Tuesday night 50% off sushi! Anthony Bourdain would cringe, I'm sure, about Monday fish being served raw, but it's not half bad! And to stuff yourself for about $12 per person (including tip), it's hard to complain!…More »

2 for 1 happy hour is nice too, but it's just at the bar.
3 1/2, actually.
On a Saturday night, the place was packed, which I think must be the only acceptable way to have dinner there. From the tinsel to the music to the weird coloring-book pages of a man's face plastering the walls, t decor and atmosphere…More »

My Fives (42)What better positive reinforcement for my favorite 5-star restaurants than to give them their own list? All throughout the city (and a couple in California), here are the places I think deserve that brilliant streak of bright red stars. |
Mangio Italiano (21)If you are feeling like some carbohydrates, look no further than this list of Italian restaurants |
Eating my way through the Upper West Side (88)After moving to my dream neighborhood, I set a goal: Eat at (and Yelp) every restaurant between 79th St. and 86th St. on Columbus and Amsterdam-- that's 81 restaurants. Deli/bodegas don't count, hole-in-the-wall Chinese does. Take out/delivery does count, but I don't plan on relying on it (that would be so boring!) I have also included some bonus restaurants that are so close they almost count!A pre-thanks to all my friends who will accompany me throughout this endeavor! I'm going to be making my map today and will keep it updated as I go along. *Final note: some of these reviews will go against my "If I don't like it, I don't Yelp it" preference. I must be honest! |
Brunch without Borders (35)Since when did brunch last until 4 pm? Ever since it emerged in New York City, apparently. I always thought that brunch time should be the time between breakfast and lunch, but in this lovely metropolis I have found that it is actually a meal incorporating breakfast and lunch foods at any time one pleases (mostly weekends). That said, here are all of the places that I have been to in the city for brunch: |

Manhattan Dining on a Teacher's Salary (42)Most places on this list can get you a nice meal (some with drinks, some without) for under $25 (I know... not THAT cheap) or some drinks and snacks for under $15, but others are just such a sweet deal that I couldn't not include them. So for all my fellow public school teachers-- treat yourselves to something nice! You deserve it! |

MexiCAN and MexiCAN'T (15)I love me some Mexican food. Here are some so-called Mexican places that make me feliz and others that make me triste. |
