This place is a new addition to Telegraph Ave's Korean row. It took over the space of Korean Kitchen, and it's right next door to Sahn Maru. The house specialty is "casseroles" or jungol; meat or seafood, with vegetables in a big wok cooked at the…More »

Came here a while back and wasn't too impressed. Meats weren't that tasty and only a handful of side dishes. Service was very slow, even once we got their attention. So it made AYCE not worth it.
I came here for lunch today with my Korean coworker. I'm on a mission to eat at every Korean place in Oakland with him LOL. It's nice because I just sit back and let him do all the talking.
Anyway, I had a hankering for some dukbokki but more…More »
My coworker bought me Ccholmyun noodles from this market this past weekend. I doubted it at first because the uncooked noodles look nothing like the finished product. However, they were every bit as chewy as I remembered.

I found this place from a review on egullet when searching for dukbokki. Here they make it with chewy noodles, cchol myon (my favorite version). No special request needed, that's just how they make it! I read that they cook it at your table, but I…More »
We came here for lunch and tried the All You Can Eat Dduk Bo Sam feast! There were 2 options provided, a $14.99/person or $16.99/person which included more cuts of meat. We opted for the latter to allow us indulge to the max. They started us off…More »

Not sure if we got hooked up due to my limited Korean chops, but we got a super deluxe version of kimchi chigae the other night, complete with spam, hot dogs, ramen noodles, and dduk. Trust me, you will appreciate this at 3 in the morning.

I tried the Jja Jang Myun and fried mandoo here for lunch. The sauce is more of a unadulterated black bean sauce, less sweet than at Koryo Ja Jang (Yet Nal Za Zang) down the block. I prefer the sweetness in Koryo's version though, the sauce seems…More »
Update: Tried the Yuk Kae Jang and damn is it spicy here! Must try if you like Yuk Kae Jang.
I had the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap today. The portion was fairly large, with a good portion of different veggies and I liked that mushrooms were included. The egg…More »

We went here last week and I tried the Bibim Nang Myun. Never had this dish before, but it was tasty and cool, perfect during the heat wave we had. Noodles were cut tableside, and the gochu jang derived sauce had a nice balance of sweet and tart. It…More »
I tried the Dae Ji Go Gi Soondubu (pork soondubu) and thought it was pretty good, but lacking in complexity. I ordered it spicy and the anchovy broth was totally red, with no veggies in it like at Pyung Chang. The pork pieces were rather small, and…More »

I came here again today so decided I better put my review in the right place. Koryo Ja Jang, not Yet Nal Za Zang. I still can't order anything besides the Jam Ja Combo.... so good!

My favorite is now the mushroom and beef soondubu. It comes with regular button mushrooms as well as enoki mushrooms and pieces of beef. Their napa kimchi was excellent today and the rest of the panchan were very fresh.
A few years ago, I was introduced to Soondubu at this very location. Now, after many more bowls of… Read more »

Great that it's 24 hours. Not great were the soups. After a long night of drinking, I want soup, and a good one at that. The dukmandu gook didn't have the same seaweed flavor I'm used to, it was plain beef broth instead. The dumplings weren't…More »

Update 11/08: I've had better tofu soup, best to get it "spicy" here.
Update 6/08: Not as good as the Oakland Korean spots I frequent, but this place is still satisfying. Panchan isn't nearly as fresh as I've had so that's where they lose points.…More »

Based on reviews, I thought this place might be better than Lee's Tofu or LA Sokongdong but it wasn't. We ordered the tofu soup spicy (2nd highest level) and it wasn't spicy at all. The BBQ pork was nice and lean but a little on the sweet side.…More »
I thought it was cool that you get jap chae and fried fish as part of the panchan. Spicy pork was ok. But I like the soondubu better at Shin Tofu House.
We tried Soon Tofu with pork, which was fresh and tender. The tofu was silky smooth in texture but the best part was the broth, which had just the perfect amount of heat and flavor. We ordered it very spicy. A must order.

Pho Quest (54)I appreciate a good pho broth. A broth more about the essence of the beef bones it was cooked with a light undertone of onions to complement and slightly sweeten the broth. I'm not too keen on too much anise or cloves, the less the better. This perfectly balanced pho broth should induce you to eat slowly, appreciating the savory goodness, and drink the broth to the last drop.... Oh yeah, fresh beef is a must! |
Taquerias (53)A few taquerias in the Bay that I've tried. As you can see my benchmark is "Al Pastor", marinated pork cooked on a spit. But some places don't actually use a spit anymore - sacrilege! |
