 1. Sled Dog and Musher Camp

Douglas, AK

I've chosen my 1200th review to be about the highlight of our Alaskan cruise - visiting a working musher's camp and riding a dog sled.

The dogs were already harnessed to the sled and they went absolutely bonkers when they saw our tour group arrive.…More »

Even though I got stuck in the middle of a zip line, between our zip line adventure and our visit to the sled dog musher's camp in the same day, it was hard to imagine a more perfect day in Alaska. The trip here started with a motor boat trip past…More »

Because of a Scooby Doo episode from 1976 with a demon who lives in underground Old Seattle, I had an inkling that there was an actual Old Seattle. (Scooby Doo has also taught me that you can eat a 5 foot high sandwich as long as you tie a bow around…More »

Pinkies out!

When you have tea at the Empress as the picture I've uploaded shows, pinkies out is the rule. (No one was obsessed with this or seemed to even contemplate it except us though.)

I first had tea at the Empress in 1990 with my mom. At the…More »

Snorkeling in Alaska? No, to get in the water we didn't have to chip through ice with an axe and ward off polar bears. The water was about 65 degrees when we were there in August - so that's actually pretty comfortable when you're wearing a wet suit.…More »

Okay, so I saturated the blue a little bit, but check out my photo of Mendenhall Glacier!

We were too cheap to book an excursion to Mendenhall Glacier through our cruise ship. I'm glad we were too cheap though - instead of paying around $70 apiece, we…More »

"Don't go kayaking with your significant other unless you want to argue the whole time." We heard this advice a couple days before we went on this kayaking trip. Too bad we didn't hear it before kayaking on our honeymoon in Thailand. (My husband kept…More »

Recently updated lists from Kathleen M.

Where to Take the Parents to Eat in the Bay Area (10)

The only "ethnic" food my parents will eat is Mexican, Chinese, and Italian trilogy (I know - hard to believe those are "ethnic"). Unfortunately I hate "American" food. Here's where we go.

I Like My Pizza Down and Dirty Chicago Style (12)

Not too many places make deep dish pizza. Here's a list of places that do, and decorate it in the usual assortment of Chicago kitsch.

A Thai-Phoon of Thai (47)

I've been to 47 Thai restaurants in Bay Area, and endured some really great tom khai gai and some really crappy pad kee mao just to bring you this list.

My Reviews of the Day (22)

I'm lucky enough to have had a couple of 'em. I find it helps to get selected if the first line of your review mentions man meat or taking a dump. Or for some reason at least in my case, if your review mentions kabobs.

Oh Yes It's Mom's Night. And the Feeling's Right... (7)

Yeah, I'm a Mom and once a month I have a Night Out. Here's where we've gone to eat our tantruming child cares away.

Gallery of Closed Restaurants (70)

Why I continue to review restaurants that are closed I do not know.

V-Day in the B.A. (12)

I've had lots of Valentine's Days in the Bay Area. Here's where I ate, for better or for worse.

Pretending to Live in Los Gatos, my Favorite City (14)

I hope to one day live in "The Cats." In the meantime, I'll just stroll around town pretending I'm a local.

I'll Have a Silicon Valley Pizza, Light on the Silicon (35)

A good pizza my time was put into making this list of 30 pizzerias.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner in Palo Alto? (11)

Me!
Here are some places I've dined at in Stanford Country.
