Five three-course experiences, ranging from 2.5 stars all the way to 5! Funny how the venue I had the highest expectations for (Digestif) ranked the lowest, and the highest rating went to that (Coup des Tartes) I hadn't even planned on trying!

I really should stop watching Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" on DVR while I'm running on the treadmill... After many weeks of craving cupcakes, I finally relented and made a quick stop at AJ's to see if the boulangerie had cupcakes for sale. I found…More »

I've been eating here for years since moving to AZ in '03, although it's been at least a year since I've visited this PJ location. The hummus served here is one of the three best I've tried in the area (the other two were Sabuddy's (RIP) and Persian…More »

My go-to breakfast venues in the valley! (18)It's no secret that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. When I'm on my best behavior, my first meal of the day certainly breaks the fast that my body goes on a daily basis between the meal of the previous day, sleep, exercise, AND a refreshing shower (12 to 16 hours!), and it goes w/out saying that I take breakfast SERIOUSLY. On the special days I actually have the extra time to have my first meal somewhere other than at home, here are a few valley spots I like to go to and get my "fast" fix!Music accompaniment: I Love Paris: 18 Sensuous French Classics. |
"If you are what you eat, in my case I'll be sweet!" (87)... so come and get some!Props to Mr. A-Z for penning those lyrics-- so sexy and inviting, and they definitely apply to this list! Here are some of the best sweets (whether they be desserts, salads w/ fruits and candied nuts, breakfasts, shakes, or sweet potato fries!) I've had in recent years... |
My Fast Food! (31)No- these aren't your typical fast-food chain places. These are places I normally go when I don't have much time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere (not to say that these places aren't pretty- most are!), or perhaps the money to splurge on great service, as well as great food. Many of these restaurants have obliged me w/ taking my order on the phone so that I may have less time to wait for it at the table! And it's nice to know that I can get good-quality food fast here w/o losing good service. |
Java Jivin' in the Phoenix valley (26)Just as the Ink Spots sang in "Java Jive," their 1940 hit, "I love coffee, I love tea. I love the Java Jive and it loves me!" Here are a few local spots where I've enjoyed a few caffeinated shots. As you peruse this list, have a listen at this fun version. Enjoy! :) http://www.youtube.com... |
My Neighborhood I (Laveen, AZ) (25)As you might have noticed, I am willing to drive in my never-ending quest for good eats and entertainment. Here are four- and five-star "local" spots near me (w/in 16 miles). |
Bruschetta, brushetta, to-may-to, to-mah-to... (8)Personally, I like pronunciating it w/ the "sk" sound- makes me feel like I can speak Eye-talian, capiche? Here are places that do these hor d'oeuvres justice! Enjoy! |
Ooh... Ahh... Ooh... Ahh (43)They say "that's the sound of the men working on the chain gang." Well, I could certainly relate to those men, as I almost always feel that way, too, when I eat at chain restaurants! So I try to stay away, and often go to places that allow me to sub ingredients I can't eat. The following chains, however, have been easier than most to work w/, which is why I think they deserve to be on a list! (If nothing else, I have found some foods worthy of the pain that comes after! Haha!) |
Cocktails! (38)Moonlit nights or not, here's a list of places I've enjoyed having cocktails at! |
Come w/ Me On a Magic Carpet Ride! (24)Where I like to go for mediterranean fare, here in the Phoenix valley and elsewhere! |
Go, fish! (9)A short list of where I've been very pleasantly surprised to find great seafood. |
