I love Elm Cafe. I was so excited when it opened. No more Second Cup for this girl! Their coffee is great, the sandwiches are delicious, the muffins are tasty, the service is friendly. I highly recommend it. My only issue with the place is that it's…More »
The best waffles I've had this side of the Atlantic. Unlike your standard waffle, these are sweeter and crispier and are delicious on their own.
Definitely worth tracking them down on their website or on Twitter.
Transcend just keeps getting better and better. This is their third location, where Axis used to be on Jasper Ave. I never made it to Axis, so I can't comment on how much it's changed inside, but given how quickly they opened up, I'm impressed with…More »
Victoria Promenade is the kind of thing that's missing from a lot of our river valley. It runs along 100 Ave from 117 St to 121 St, with a nice wide sidewalk, lots of benches, and great views of the river valley. On a nice day, it gets pretty busy…More »
I lived in Edmonton for a number of years before I took the streetcar for the first time. I assumed it was just one of those things tourists did, and I took it for the first time just to get from downtown to the Fringe site. I was surprised by how…More »
Grant Notley Park is a great little spot at the top of Victoria Park Hill. The view of the river valley here is fantastic. Looking south, you'd think Edmonton is just a giant park with a university in the middle of it.
There are lots of benches and a…More »
I haven't taken in the whole Cariwest festival yet, but I've been to the parade a few times now. It's not the most punctual parade, but the costumes make the wait worthwhile. 20 foot high costumes, bright colours, dancing... probably my favourite…More »
Oh Valley Zoo. Growing up in northern Alberta, getting to come to Edmonton and go to the zoo was pretty frickin exciting. Unfortunately, now that I've seen other zoos (and entered adulthood), the Valley Zoo looks much less exciting.
I'd probably…More »
I've been to this location a few times now, including once with a big group. They were accommodating and friendly, and I will likely go back, although mostly because this is the kind of place that will satisfy the pickiest eaters of the bunch, it's…More »
Let's get one thing straight: I don't like baseball. But, we all do crazy things for love, and so I found myself at a Capitals game at Telus Field.
The game itself was mildly entertaining, although mostly I didn't pay that much attention. But, I have…More »
I've heard that the Edmonton Fringe is supposed to be the best fringe festival in North American, and second in the world only to Edinburgh... and I believe it. I've been a Fringe patron for a number of years, and a volunteer once, and everything…More »
Located at the north end of the High Level bridge, this is a pretty high traffic park in the summer. There are quiet corners with benches for relaxing, wide open spaces for running around, and access to bike paths in various directions.
A nice space…More »
Edmonton's summer festivals are definitely fantastic, but there's still stuff to see in the winter too. Ice on Whyte is a fun way to get some fresh air in the winter too.
Admission is $2, there's hot chocolate, and if you're feeling like a kid, you…More »
Beaver Hill House Park is on its way up. Back when I first moved to Edmonton, I was nervous walking by it at night... it seemed to be a haven for the kinds of people you don't necessarily want to run into in the dark.
Now though it seems there's more…More »
Best park in Edmonton? I think so. A huge park in our lovely river valley, with trails coming in from a bunch of different directions. There are all kinds of great festivals and events going on here year-round. It's also a great spot for barbecues in…More »
