1. The Works
Only go if you're VERY hungry.
The burgers are huge and tasty, though the disclaimer they make you sign for medium cooking is a bit silly. Their onion rings are delicious. They lose a few points for the hokey measuring cup glasses though.
2. The French Baker / Le Boulanger Français
The only decent baguette I've found in Ottawa. The quality can be a bit hit or miss sometimes, but overall not a bad spot, and makes leaving Montreal behind just a tad easier.
3. The Manx
I love this place.
Great beer on tap, friendly staff, and an eclectic menu that's constantly changing. I drag people here for post-work beers whenever I get a chance.

4. Pub Italia
I love this place! Great beer menu in a fantastic environment. I love taking first time visitors through to see the abbey.

5. The Scone Witch
A must-visit place for me when I'm in the downtown core. I love their lunch sandwiches, and will often pick up some of their sweet scones and delicious homemade lemon curd for breakfast.

6. Bridgehead Coffeehouse
As good as it gets in the NCR.
I'm not a huge fan of their atmosphere in general (it looks so.. chainstore), but the cappuccinos are fantastic, especially since they upgraded all their machines to Synessos.

7. Highlander Pub
Decent pub in the downtown core. Good local beer, and the trivia contest can be a lot of fun. The pub food is about what you'd expect for this kind of spot, extra points for having haggis on the menu.
