I've been to two branches of Ding Tai Fung in Shanghai and their steamed soup dumplings eclipsed everything I've had before and since in NYC.  I thought this another branch but seems it has nothing to do with the Ding Tai Fung franchise.  This place…More »

Maple Yip is a homestyle Cantonese restaurant in Scarborough, located in a careworn, older strip mall with limited parking.  Counsel and reviews warned that this place packs in crowds and it was very true; reservations are a must between 7 PM - 9 PM,…More »

Recently updated lists from Valery C.

Cuisine: Thai (3)

In a city surprisingly bereft of great Thai (or real, for that matter), here is a list of the best I've had in NYC.

Accommodations (13)

Keeping my hotels and other accommodation reviews together.

Eats by Neighborhood: Park Slope (18)

I used to spend a lot of time eating in Park Slope, since it was just a hop from work, and even though my wandering eyes are a bit enamored with other Bklyn neighborhoods at the moment, it still has destinations worth returning for and some more still on my to-go list.

Favorite NYC restaurants (10)

Those restaurants that I love, and can go back to over and over and never tire of.  There are no specific criteria, nor is it ever only food that makes it a favorite, nor is it the same for every one.  But it always multiple reasons, some intangible, at work.  Single specialty item spots excluded.

Food Item: Odyssey for Elite Sushi (6)

Perhaps I've been living under a rock, but after 15 East reassured me that excellent sushi exists in NYC, my friend and I decided to try every highly regarded sushi restaurant here.  Forget fusion, trendy, and fancy rolls.  This is sushi bar dining in the hands of the chef only.

Platt 101 (2012) (29)

Keeping track of the restaurants on Adam Platt of New York mag's 2012 list of NYC's top 101 restaurants.

Food Style: Tapas (5)

Small plates for sharing to go with drinks, is there a better way to dine?

Sifty Fifty (2011) (14)

Tracking the 50 favorite restaurants of Sam Sifton, the former NY Times food critic, as of 8/2011.  In alphabetical order.  Whether he will now update this remains to be seen ...

Eats by Neighborhood: Bensonhurst (9)

Never thought I'd see fit to make a Bensonhurst list.  And no question there's a dearth of destination places here, but its my neighborhood and here are some of the places I go to simply because its convenient.

Tasting menus tours (15)

The truest sign of the adventurous eater is that they gleefully surrender preference and thought to wizards in kitchens, enjoying a parade of tastes and savoring the surprise factor.  No need to worry that those in your party aren't ordering enough for you to try!
