What the hell is that noise? Is that my cheese squeaking?
Poutine galore tucked away behind an uninviting door on Davie street. Fries smothered in a fatty, salty gravy and scattered with cheese curds and smoked meat. I think I felt my heart stop…More »

It is great to have a wine store that is so passionate and committed to their product. With an excellent selection across a large price range this is the best wine store I have been to in Vancouver.
Instead of browsing through suppliers listings or…More »
Indian food outside of India is a strange beast. Each city seems to have it's own interpretations of dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala is probably the greatest example of this as it is a dish that was created in the UK and not India. I travelled through…More »
I have been meaning to hit this place up for a brunch for a while, but it seemed to classy a joint for me to stumble in hungover and smelling like brewery as I do on most weekend mornings. However, this weekend it was a friends birthday so we thought…More »
It is great to have somewhere so close to home where I can pick up all those harder to find ingredients. They stock all the spices I can't find at the grocery chains as well as fresh cheeses, olives and cured meats as well as a large range of canned…More »
I can only really think that people are more interested in size and price than quality. This place isn't bad per se but is definitely nothing special in the food department at all. I really think that people just come here because you can get a lamb…More »

Lets just say that if you have been out all night drinking and hopping from bar to bar and ended up with raging appetite at 4am in the morning, then this is the place for you.
No the food is not fantastic and the service is as cold as their special…More »
The best thing Lolita's has going for it is the atmosphere. This place is always buzzing and you really feel like having a drink or two while you are here. With a Polynesian inspired decor it feels somewhat like a tiki bar.
The food is what you might…More »
Ohh Hamburger Mary's I wonder if I would visit you if you weren't so close. I end up going here when I am hungover and need a grease feast after a big night out. The service is pretty bad sometimes with a server once asking us if we were ready to…More »
After trawling through internet for good eats shortly after arriving in Vancouver, one place that immediately sparked my interest was Bin 941. Owner/chef and former punk vocalist Gord Martin opened Bin 941 eleven years ago and has since opened two…More »

I have only been here for dinner but it was a very average meal indeed. Why they obsess in giving you massive portions I have no idea and then they charge you extra to share. I can just see Gordon Ramsey's tearing them to shreds over their portion…More »

With the limited grocery options in the West End Safeway in general fails to add much to the pot. While they stock a wider range than No Frills they gouge you on the prices ridiculously. Their "Safeway Card" is just another example of how they push…More »

Ok so if you go in here expecting NY style finest slice you are in the wrong place. If you go in here wanting something greasy and fatty that you can buy with you last bit of change to stave off that drunken hunger as you stumble home walking in zig…More »

As I sat here watching the sun slowly slip behind the horizon, the waters of English Bay shimmered. Flashes of colour danced across the bay like flames as young couples leaned together on benches and stared wistfully at the horizon. A slow procession…More »
Granville Street (12)The bright lights of Vancouver's main drag |
Downtown 1hr lunch spots (12)I am on a mission to find the top 10 lunch spots within 4 blocks of my work. Yes, it will be dangerous as I battle through bain maries filled msg laden goop, sushi with fillings that smell like the hull of a fishing boat, chain outlets with their bright lights, scripted greetings and pimply staff.I will have to fend off crowds armed only with a lunch tray and a plastc knife and mend my wounds with napkins the size of a ipod but I will succeed. Mark my words, by years end I will be able to sense a health code violation at 20 paces and make my way in and out of the most crowded food court blindfolded, balancing a tray on my big toe with the best grub these 4 blocks have to offer. |

Portland (16)Stumptown, PDX, City of Roses. What ever you want to call it Portland is a great place to visit. Pair a fantastic food culture with an abundance of microbreweries, burgeoning music scence and friendly small city attitude and you can't go too far wrong...apart from the rain that is. |
Denman Street (8)The sometimes forgotten street in the West End. Denman stretches from the bay to the harbour and is home to an abundance of places to eat. |
Gastown (6)A touch of class and a touch of grit |
Burger Urge (4)There is some kind of beauty in the simplicity of a well made burger. The soft bun, the lightly charred meat and the complimentary condiments. This simple north American staple is a hot topic on the internet, with arguments from origins to components to cooking styles debated by purists to molecular gastronomers alike. Who does make the best burger? |
Los Angeles without the traps (24)For the most part everyone I know who travels to LA ends up at Disneyland, Universal Studios and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I want to do those type of things about as much as I want to discuss the pros and cons of various feminine hygiene products with my mother. So I tried to set out to find out about another part of LA, one that I would enjoy. |
