Background: I've been to Taiwan, the birthplace of bubble tea, and so I have had the gold standard.

Food: This beats the gold standard.  Fresh fruit options like canteloupe and apple clearly stand out if you've had the grosser over-sweetened powdered…More »

3.0 star rating
  6/13/2010

Background: Been to Taiwan.  Me love Taiwanese food long time.

Food: Fried rice had weird crunchy chunks of MSG crystals in it and I think it had a neurotoxic effect on me.  Pork knuckle is tender juicy and comes with a vinegar-like dipping sauce.…More »

  Update - 6/6/2010

I ate in here like 3 times in the last 3 weeks.  I'd almost step over my own mother to get a bowl of rice noodles with BBQ duck and BBQ pork ($6), with a side of gai lan (Chinese broccoli) in oyster sauce ($1).  Each table has tasty chili oil which I…More »

Cheap HK diner with surprisingly good quality.  Always full of Cantonese people.  Try their curried beef brisket on rice, baked seafood on rice, or Portuguese chicken rice.  I'm iffy on their bubble and Malaysian items such as roti with curry dip, as…More »

Background: I'm Chinese, raised in Vancouver, and I've eaten a crapload in Taiwan.

Background: I'm Chinese raised in Vancouver.  I've known all the joints in Chinatown since I was a kid.

I'm surprised this restaurant hasn't had a review yet!  It's one of the gems of the new South Cambie strip.  I headed in there for lunch one day while on my way to the airport and was greeted by a clean, sleek interior, white tablecloths, and large…More »

Good greasy crap (4)

This is a list of my favourite snack joints that are well worth the heart attack I may have 50 years from now.  Without them I might as well be a Himalayan monk.

Izakaya oisheee! (4)

"Izakaya", or tavern-style non-sushi japanese tapas are a sensation you can only really enjoy in Vancouver (outside of Japan).  You're a sorry mofo of a Vancouverite if you don't try at least a few of these places.
