We were excited to try this place after Jon Kaufmann's recent review heralding Serpentine as the best burger in SF.
We had a bunch of the menu to start, calamari, chicken liver, asparagus salad, hamachi, pork belly, meat plate. Standouts were the…More »

Came back and tried more of the menu. We started with 2 apps, the Wood Oven Roasted Sardines and Little Fried Fish and Sauce Romesco, the latter was really good. Thinly battered and nicely fried, served with a delicious complex sauce.

Came back and tried the burger again without cheese, much better. But they didn't let my burger rest so all the juices flowed out when I bit into it. Still a good burger though so I'll raise my rating.
The shrimp dish came with an overly salty sauce…More »

Pretty impressed with this new spot from the Marlowe team.
Nice space, well executed food.
We started with the deviled eggs, steak crudo, pork belly bites, and uni.
The only miss was the uni, which we all agreed could do without the butter lettuce.

Tyler Florence's new restaurant in the FiDi. We came here opening week, and experienced a few hiccups in the service.
The appetizers were hit or miss. We had the foie, mac and cheese, deviled eggs, bone marrow, and an uni dish I believe.
The mains…More »

My past few visits, the food has been really good. I love the pressed chicken, with a crispy skin, delicious polenta and greens. The J burger is always a hit, and the fries are great.
On my rotation now.
New gastropub with good cocktail program from the mixologist at Burritt Room.
The food was so so. We…

Came back and tried the korean tacos, which have been making headlines at the Thursday ferry plaza market. They were really tasty, with a generous portion of chopped shortrib. Instead of a tortilla, it's served on a couple sheets of seaweed which is…More »

Came on opening day and even met chef Hubert Keller himself, who's really down to earth and personable.
I had the Hubert Keller burger which came with buffalo meat, caramelized onions, bleu cheese, and sauteed spinach on a ciabatta bun. Everything…More »
Came here because Tyler Florence said it was "the best burger ever", so obviously I had high expectations.
I had the Spicy Sly burger, medium rare. Unfortunately, the bell peppers and spicey sauce overwhelmed the burger. The patty was overcooked and…More »

I came here for the burger (#11 on 7x7 mag's list). I immediately liked the space and dark intimate lighting. The special cocktail I had to start didn't impress me, so I stuck with wine which was fine.
The antipasto was good with small pickles to cut…More »

Finally made a return visit to Fifth Floor last night, under the new chef David Bazirgan.
We started with the halibut crudo, which was fine, but needed a bit more acidity for my taste.

$1.95 beers.
I ordered my burger medium rare and it was well done. I don't like it when that happens. The sweet potato fries and onion rings are only okay. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd give it another shot.

Perhaps I went on an off day, but this location of Barney's is no good in my book. I much prefer the East Bay locations, where they do my favorite burger, the Parisien right.

Good burger, but it didn't live up to the hype for me. Don't come expected to be blown away.

Pho Quest (54)I appreciate a good pho broth. A broth more about the essence of the beef bones it was cooked with a light undertone of onions to complement and slightly sweeten the broth. I'm not too keen on too much anise or cloves, the less the better. This perfectly balanced pho broth should induce you to eat slowly, appreciating the savory goodness, and drink the broth to the last drop.... Oh yeah, fresh beef is a must! |
Taquerias (53)A few taquerias in the Bay that I've tried. As you can see my benchmark is "Al Pastor", marinated pork cooked on a spit. But some places don't actually use a spit anymore - sacrilege! |
