Alaskan Adventure

See All Lists
My family went on an Alaskan Cruise the summer of 07. We opted for the surf & turf tour, 7 days at sea & 7 days on land. We sailed from Vancouver, BC on Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas and flew back home from Fairbanks Alaska 2 weeks later. It's an experience of a life time and everyone who can, should!

This review is specifically about the ship, and not the tour.

Both were excellent, but the excursions and port of calls deserve their own reviews.

Best feature: all the glass. This ship goes to Alaska and back and having an unobstructed view is…More »

One of the "1000 things to do before you die."
I agree.

Now, I have been on other ziplines, but they just don't compare.

1) you are taught how to maneuver yourself here: how to zip fast or slow, stop without slamming into your guide or the tree, pull…More »

I cannot overstate how nice these guys were.

My family flew into Vancouver a couple of days before our cruise set sail for Alaska.

My whole family rides, and we wanted to rent motorcycles to go up into the mountains. The problem is, my younger brother…More »

The worst excursion of the entire trip.

What was bad?
1) The bikes.
2) The guide.
3) What there was to see.

1) The bikes were old, decrepid, beat up, and all together not worthy.
The helmets smelled very badly of sweat.
Not all of the bikes…More »

My favorite horsee is the white one with the pretty flowers in its mane.

On the carousel of course!

This is a neat museum about what life was like in the 20's around the Vancouver area.

What makes it so neat is it is set up like a village or town, and…More »

Something you've got to see if you're in Ketchican.

It is one of the cheapest excursions off the boat at about $35 a person.

2) They are really good.

A bike ride through majestic mountains that requires no effort.
How, you may ask?
Only ride downhill!

Really gorgeous.
You go through, like, 4 different types of climates. Rain forest, Alpine, Tundra & something else. It's because of the serious climb in elevation you do while on this train ride.

The scenery is beautiful and you get to go over some…More »

This is a kick-ass resort.

I think there should be rules about the use of the word resort. The big difference between a hotel and a resort is that resorts have things to do.
You could spend a week here just doing the things the resort offers.

The best fillet Mignon I've ever had in my life.

The ice museum alone is worth the drive.
Where else can you sit down, on a fur covered ice stool, at a bar entirely made out of ice, and order an apple martini that comes in a glass made out of ice as well?
Get the theme?
So very cool.

But the resort…More »

Tourist Trap.

Pleasant Palmetto Bay (20)

Just south of Suniland and north of "The Ridge" (now Cutler Bay) is Palmetto Bay.
Here is what's around.

Medical stuff (10)

We may not like to think about it, but you still have to go to these kinda places once in a while.

Bakery Center (16)

Yeah, I know. I'm dating myself.
Before "Sunset Place", it was called the BAKERY CENTER.
Here is the stuff in the neighborhood.

Kendall... why the $%^& did you drive out here? (6)

Anything west of the turnpike SHOULD be everglades.
But, occasionally, I find myself in this strange land.

Baby Mine (23)

It's a song from DUMBO. If you didn't get that reference, you need to buy more Disney, for your children's sake.
If you have a little one or are expecting, you will end up here at some point.

I'm a Disney Freak. I offer my knowledge and expertise.

These places get an extra star  just because I can get to them by boat.
