Wondering where to find the coolest, hippest handmade gifts for everyone on your
holiday list? Do you want to support talented Canadian artisans and designers
instead of huge multinational chains? Would you rather listen to the hottest DJs
rather than crappy Christmas music? Well then Make It is the place you want to
be this November 20th to 22nd! Shop from over 90 of Canada's hottest emerging
designers under one roof.

What sets Make It apart from a typical craft show is the funky, upbeat atmosphere.
Top DJs will be spinning urban beats as you peruse the booths creating a fun party vibe.
This is definitely not your "granny's craft show" and therefore there will be no pinecone
art or popsicle stick reindeers in sight! At Make It you will only find cool, innovative and
stylish items that generally fall into the fashion, art, accessories, jewelry and home decor
categories.

A shopping experience for the next generation who crave something different.

Join the Handmade Revolution and feel good about what you buy!

Make It is like a mullet; craft show in the front party in the back!

really?! I was so sleepy but Greg the host was a riot! It was cool to do the live on location at Raw Canvas too.

We've got passes for Make It this weekend! Let's talk about crafts shall we?

Tell us your favourite or more horrifying self-made creation: it can be recent or from way back (I seem to recall lots of wet lengths of paper covering balloons, feathers, glitter and whole lotta glue!)

I've got 10 pairs so get your story in and get on the Make It list!

Easy.  In grade 8 home economics class we had to make a pair of boxers, our first expedition into sewing and not only did it take me 3 times as long as everyone else to get them made, I actually bribed my best friend to finish sewing the elastic into them so I wouldn't fail the project.  This is when I discovered that I couldn't sew.  I still have those boxers and they are still hideous.

Hand me a frying pan and utensils anyday.

Well I made a robot costume for my younger brother many moons ago out of corrugated boxes tin foil and anything else I could find. It won the best Halloween costume contest in a Cub Scout event.

I was 12 back then. I did have to make this ugly denim jacket in home economics class never wore that and eventually tossed it.

You guys talked me into going to this event. I'm going to go looking for a leather belt which I saw back in Commercial Drive. Hope they're participating here.

I have no horrifying self-made creation. Does gluttony count? I tried. :P

11/17/2009 Katie F. says:

I made a horrid bright purple t-shirt with these weird wide sleeves and a boatneck style neckline... I was so proud of it at the time but I can't believe I picked out that style and material to sew on my own!  One of my home ec projects in grade 8.

My favorite to sew = glue gun! Just don't burn yourself because it hurts like a mf!

11/18/2009 Rachael "Miss. Bakeaholic" T. says:

I favourite arts and craft project was in grade 6.. when we had to make a hand puppet with a paper mache head.... since it was spice girls era and i was IN LOVE with Emma (BABY spice), I devoted my attention to her perfect pig tails, and baby pink dress... I can still remember to this day that some guy in my class asked if he could have the puppet after it was graded. clearly he was in love with her too :)

11/18/2009 Christine "comma wrangler" R. says:

A few horrors were inflicted on the world in my grade 8 "life skills" class - like the brown jumper that looked so cute on the pattern package, but in my sewing-challenged hands turned into something Amish girls would wear, or the bottle opener that could have doubled as a jagged shiv, which they had us make in metal shop. Why would anyone have 13-year-olds making bottle openers?

My first couple of knitting projects were pretty disastrous too. I chose to make this striped scarf out of mohair (itchy, itchy mohair) and it went all crazy uneven and had big holes where I dropped or accidentally made new stitches. Then I really made it ugly by putting a fringe on it, which I trimmed way too short, making it look like fuzzballs were coming off either end. The kicker is that I actually gave it to my sister as a GIFT. She has sensibly never been seen to wear it.

11/19/2009 Crystal "Queen of the Yelp-i-dom aka Yelp Ambassador" H. says:

And look at that! You all get a pair of tickets.

Be ready to say you're a yelper at the door. Your name will be on the guest list!

Can't wait to get crafty this weekend. I think I'm going to do shopping not only for those lovely people on my Christmas list, but maybe a little for me too!

11/19/2009 Anita C. says:

during my first cake decorating experiences, i decided to make a treasure chest cake. of course i bake like 5 batches of cake, and put it all together, have it all iced and just as im about to decorate it with stuff... the lid falls over and everything just starts falling apart. why? i still dont know..

so i did the next logical thing, try to "glue" it together with more frosting

yea. it didnt work

i ended up with a huge mountain of chocolate fudgy icing cake that looked like a mountain of poo.

it was disgusting

and i was on a time crunch

yea i stayed up all night long

and guess what

it didnt fall apart! yay!

11/21/2009 Rachael "Miss. Bakeaholic" T. says:

Make it was Awesome! - lots of cool stuff at reasonable prices!
Make sure you bring cash because most of the vendors don't take plastic.

Great job Jenna!
