What/Why:
Do you have what it takes to win the 1st Annual East Van Chili Cook Off? Grab your ingredients then and meet us down at Trout Lake on July 10th for a rootin-tootin good time.

All cooks will prepare their best chili recipe in the category of meat, veggie/vegan, or exotic/gourmet (or all 3) 24 hours in advance. Then come on down to Trout Lake with your pot in tow and a hibachi, BBQ or Hot Plate with a long extension cord and heat and finish your masterpiece.

Chili will be served en mass to the public who will then score their top 3 favorites across a few categories. Chefs may also eat and vote. Judges will tally the votes and winners will be announced in such categories as: Spiciest Fucking Chili Ever (but still tastes good) Best traditional meat chili, Best vegetarian Chili, Best Exotic/Gourmet chili, and Best Overall...The Palm d'or as it were...

Prizes will be awarded including a prizes donated by Planet Bingo and Sector 9 Longboards! Other prizes forthcoming!

Entrance fee for chefs is 5 dollars per pot, this covers the cost of renting the picnic site and the cash prizes.

Entrance fee for spectators is 5 bucks for all you can eat chili (until it's gone) and bottled water and bread and snacks. The cash will cover this as well as bowls and spoons, thousands of napkins, bottled water and other sundry items a well as count towards the prizes.

More information including the rules and judging guide will be forthcoming as we get closer to summer. Until then, get cooking!!

Hey everyone! I am the creator and head judge of this event. Some things have changed. It is now FREE to register a pot of chili now (Up to 3 pots total per person, one in each category) Registration will continue until there are 60 pots of chili then they will close. On the day of the cook-off people will pay 10 dollars to the event (Prizes, logistics etc) and then be able to eat a ton of chili. For more info go to: http://eastvanchili.bl.../

hey Everyone!!! We also need 4 more judges and a schwack of volunteers to help with wristbands and information for the public.. If you want to apply to judge email http://eastvanchili.com with your reasons and "qualifications" (make em up, have fun, write a haiku... impress me...) Volunteers get free admission to the cook off (so free chili!!) as well as some token gimmicky chotchkies I will dredge up on the day of the cook off!
