What/Why:
By popular demand I am inviting fellow Yelpers to a wine tasting followed by a picnic at my farm.

We will start by meeting up at Township 7 winery, at 1pm. After wine tasting nibbles and such, we will continue on ten minutes down the road to my hobby farm for an outdoor picnic and llama visit. UPDATE: Tasting fee: $3.00 for 6 wines... unless you buy a bottle - then it is waived. Also they are putting out little goodies because they are so happy to have Yelpers there.

Come and taste some fabulous valley wines, and hang out and meet friendly llamas. This is a family friendly event - but grown ups can feel free to have a go on the tire swing.... it is is ok to spin it until you are dizzy.

Bring picnic blankets or chairs, and your mid afternoon snacking preference. Tunes and llamas will be supplied.

This will be an all weather event. Here is the information for the winery:

I will meet you there, and anybody who is continuing on to the farm will get my address at that point.

This is AWESOME! I'm going to try to make it... however, I've got a toddler's birthday party to attend this same afternoon.

9/17/2010 Karin F. says:

I'm definitely in & looking forward to it.  May I bring a guest or two?  And would you like us to bring something for the picnic portion of the event?  :)

9/17/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

@ Karin - of course bring guests... we have 5 acres so lots of people fit. I think I will set up a tent and some banquet tables so people can bring either their own picnic or food to share... pot luck is fun but it should be easy.

@ Steve... if you start driving now, you can make the event and you will see that Llamas are far larger than alpacas, and have wool similar to each other, but not at all similar to sheep's wool. Maybe in the spring I will have an UYE event when I have them sheared.

9/17/2010 Jenni "Yelp is Not a Singles Bar" B. says:

I'm definately in for the vino aspect and will hang out as long as I can! I want to see llamas!

9/18/2010 Gina "Argentina" I. says:

you know I'll be there. And I've been there before. Murray, Sparkle and Spirit are awesome.. but watch out for Spirit ;)

9/18/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

Spirit is such a nasty old bitch... but Murray is very sweet, and Sparkle is shy and despite her spinal deformity, she is very cute.... Gina I am so glad you are coming!!

9/18/2010 Roanna "Squirrel mama" Z. says:

I'm really looking forward to hanging out on your farm Inga, this is really a great UYE.
I'll be there with the big guy, and possibly 3 others.

Emma, if you are serious about coming that will make 4 non glute's ! Maybe we should plan our picnic together?

9/19/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

A few notes for folks coming to the picnic at our place:

If you want to go exploring in the rougher area of the property... bring rubber boots.
We have three very sweet dogs - two are Great Danes - so if you are going to scream like a little girl when you see our big dogs, maybe llamas won't be your thing either.
There is access to an outhouse on our property - I will do a spider sweep before you arrive...

This is going to be such fun.....

9/20/2010 Jenni "Yelp is Not a Singles Bar" B. says:

Inga - can I please ride either a dog or a llama? Heehee! I'm so excited. Wine puppies AND llamas. I'm bringing my fella with me.

9/20/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

EVERYBODY BRING A VIDEO CAMERA... Jenni is going to try to ride a llama... there has to be a $10,000 AFV prize in that venture...

9/20/2010 Jenni "Yelp is Not a Singles Bar" B. says:

Ooh I'll bring mine!

9/20/2010 Karin F. says:

Inga, I notice the event details specify that this will be a fair weather event.  Can I assume that in the event of rain this will be cancelled?  Just wondering, because thus far the forecast isn't looking favourable :(

9/21/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

The winery has a building for us to be in, so even if it is pouring the wine tasting will be nice and dry. Anybody who wants to brave our farm in the rain is welcome. I have a big 10X10 tent and lawn chairs... so the party can go on if folks are hardy...

I just never know with you city folks (tee hee)

9/21/2010 Christine "comma wrangler" R. says:

I'm at a course until 4 that day, but if this party goes into the twilight hours, I might just be able to make it. I do love llamas (and dogs, and wine...)

9/21/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

Hey folks... I called Township 7 to confirm today and they are over the moon that we are coming. The first chick I spoke to when I organized it neglected to mention the tasting fee is $3 for 6 different wines. If you buy a bottle they don't charge you a tasting fee. Because they love Yelp they are also putting out nibbles...

I didn't think $3.00 would be deal breaker, but I thought I should post it and update the event to ensure everybody knows.

BTW - we had llama drama last night... we had to scare away an pack of coyotes who had our three llamas surrounded... it was frightening... those coyotes were howling and yelping (no offence) and getting ready to attack!!! I was so worried about our youngest because she is little (she was a preemie) and her spine is crooked. We scared them off... but what a racket!

Can't wait to see you all !!

9/21/2010 Reena "Maple me up" M. says:

Ugh... I'm so jealous! :( I soooo want to visit the farm.  I dream of farms!! I vacation so I can go work on farms.. :(

9/21/2010 Karin F. says:

The probability of precipitation percentage is going down...here's hoping that the weather turns in our favour by Saturday.  Looking forward to it, but can only stay until about 5:00pm as I have plans back in Vancouver that evening.

Important question, Inga.

Does llama fur frizz up in rain/high humidity? :D

9/22/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

Llam felt is different from fur...it is always frizzy and usually full of brambles. We don't use Pantene on them.

How about this for the poor folks (Reena) who wanted to but couldn' t make it to this UYE.... In the spring we will have shearers come out to our place... I will have another event, and time it so that whoever wants to, can come and picnic again, and watch the llamas get sheared. Doesn't that sound like fun?

9/22/2010 Vanessa "veg" G. says:

This is totally fun! I did this a month ago. If my friend Alison is working, tell her you know me and she will be even sweeter to you then anyone else :)

9/22/2010 Jenni "Yelp is Not a Singles Bar" B. says:

Sonya - I don't know how late I can stay yet (have a bday in town to attend) but you can totally hitch a ride if you need :)

9/23/2010 Emma "Dilemma" L. says:

Llamas! I can't wait.

9/24/2010 Gina "Argentina" I. says:

Soooo excited!! I hope Murray snorgles me again :)

9/24/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

Funny Gina!

Is "snorgle" the official term for llama love? That cracks me up.

I hope they are in a good mood... I won't feed them that morning so they come ot the barn so people can see them up close.

9/24/2010 Reena "Maple me up" M. says:

I wanna get snorgled... :-p  I hope I can come the next time..

I will be there in the spring with Reena!

9/24/2010 Gina "Argentina" I. says:

from http://urbandictionary...

To snorgle is to to snuggle a cute item in an manner meant to drink in or experience its overwhelming cuteness. Imagine picking up a cute puppy and sticking your face down into its furriness and snorgling it up. See cuteoverload dot com.

9/25/2010 Inga "Bombeck Wannabe" K. says:

Hey "Bumpkins for a day" - it is sunny and beautiful out here this morning - the llamas are shiny in the sun and I am sure the good folks at the winery are going to make it a fun experience for us all.
When you arrive at the winery, I will give you the directions to our place for those coming to part deux of the UYE.

Can't wait to see you guys...
