What/Why:
Step out of the chill and into The Signature Room's welcoming dining room to experience a gourmet menu at a budget-pleasing price high above the city this winter.  The Chef's Lunch Special, a gourmet, three-course menu which features a soup or salad, choice of entrée and dessert for just $20, will be served weekdays from Monday, January 9 through Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

A wonderful variety of fresh menu selections will be offered daily. Consider some of these tantalizing options:

For first course starters, options may include a Parsnip-Lavender Soup with Vanilla; a Smoked Haddock Chowder; Beet and Vanilla Vodka Cured Salmon with Local Greens, Blueberry, and Creamsicle Vinaigrette; or a Dietzler Farms Skirt Steak Salad with Grilled Onion, Pumpernickel-Orange Croutons, Arugula, and Bacon-Blue Cheese.  

Entrées may include a Leg of Lamb Sandwich with Garlic-Peppercorn Gouda, a Pickled Green Tomato, with Tapanade on a Sundried Tomato Focaccia; Rushing Rivers Trout with Chorizo, Fig, and Chestnut Gnocchi; or a Croque Madame with Butterkase, Pancetta, Espelette Bechamel, Brioche and a Farm Egg.

For a sweet ending to the lunch, choose a house made dessert.  Selections may include a White and Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake with Kumquat Puree and Cocoa Nib Tuile; or the Classic Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and Raisin Jam.

The $20, 3-course Chef's Lunch Special will be served Mondays through Fridays during the regular lunch hours of 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in lieu of the Lunch Buffet.

Woohoo! Well, I have a colloquium to go to until 12:15pm in Evanston, so I can probably get to downtown by 1:00-1:15 depending on how fast the trains are running. Should we shoot for something around that time?

Yanyao, this is a great idea! But I'm with Nishan -- 1:30 lunch is a scootch too late for me. I'd be tempted to play hooky the rest of the day! Any chance you'd be willing to make it 12:30? If not, no worries.

Service was incredibly slow.  Didnt get drinks until 15 minutes in.  Meals came 45 minutes later.  We were one of MAYBE 7 tables when we first got there.
