I finally decided to try this place and I have to say it was great!
I ordered el Lomo Saltado and it was delish! the meat wasn't fatty, and the portion was big enough to take a doggie bag home.
While finishing our meal, the bartender came over and gave out free shots to all the ladies in our section. Nice touch!
2 small complaints. 1 - we were seated in the back and the temperature was too warm. we asked to sit in the front area where the windows provided a nice breeze.
2 - when I asked for a second round of our beers, I was brought the wrong one....not that big of a deal.
Would definitely suggest this place to friends.
So I eat out a lot... and by a lot I mean everyday... which is kind of ironic seeing that I am a REALLY good cook.. i swear I am.. in the immortal words of rapper Juvenile "she get it from her mama" (again reiteration I am from the south)... the problem is by the time I get home there is zero desire to cook...
my goal is to give Astoria a fair chance as I gave Brooklyn ( I miss you BK) in search of good places to eat. So my usual daily routine included going through grub hub and I wandered upon Tu Casa...
one quick skim of the menu and I perk up a bit because I see Peruvian food... now I loveeee Peruvian food and I am going to say something here that might be shocking BUT Miami has definitely got NYC beat when it comes to Peruvian food...
however I figured I would give Tu Casa a fair chance...
I ordered two empanadas one chicken one beef and the arroz chauva con camerones which is Peruvian fried rice with shrimp!
Now I ended up getting two beef empandas which was disappointing but they were still good, but I really wanted to try the chicken one. The fried rice was good but was way to heavy on the scallions and I love scallions but it was a bit OD. They do however give you plenty of shrimp which was a nice surprise!
The prices are good and I am curious to try the ceviche as that is one of my favorite things to eat, and I also want to try the Jalea.
All in all it was good, just wish they got my order correct, but I am not one to complain unless you really screw up...
But I am still on my quest for the Peruvian spot that reminds me of Miami that can prove me wrong...
Tu Casa is like a 3 year old child that loves to throw tantrum. I would like to grab them by the neck and slap the sh!t out of.
Time after time, they have always messed up my order and tested my patience with their stupidity and ignorance.
Today I placed an order for 6 beef and 2 chicken empanadas with their steak lunch special. I asked the guy to send me one green sauce per empanada. He told me NO PROBLEM.
15 mins later (fast delivery) but only sent me ONE sauce. (Ok no biggie) So I called the restaurant, and called, and called, and called. Finally after what seems like 8 phone calls later, a young girl picks up and places me on hold. I wait for 5 mins and then I can hear someone pick up the receiver and hang up on me. So I call back, and back and back, finally on my 3rd time she picks up.
I told her that I one receive 1 sauce for my 8 empanadas. She told me that it was the manager that I spoke to and I need to wait for him to come back. She also made me repeat my order back to her. She wasnt understanding what I needed and then finallllllllllly, she finally understood I was calling for the sauce not the food. She said she will send them right over, and I asked her to confirm how many sauces will she send. She said one sauce per emapanada. I said Ok.
15 mins later, delivery guy shows hands me a bag. I get inside my apt, look in the bag and there is 4 sauce. By this point I am livid. Are you kidding me? Are you trying to F**k with me? I called back and asked her if she is trying to play with me or if her math skills is that bad. She told me that the man that packed my food claimed to put 5 sauces. I told her that is not the case because I called the first time saying that there was only one. I asked her if she had a bad memory and did not remember what our initial conversation was. And she didnt remember.
IN the end my conclusion is that TU CASA makes your ordering and your orders too difficult and by then, you are too pissed off to eat. I am so pissed that I want to walk the food back to them and ask for a refund because of their bullshit.
Last time they forgot my rice, and then told me that they were going to deliver it. @ hours passed and numerous phone calls later they told me that they were too busy to redeliver. Tu casa screwed up my order too many times, and created many fustrated situations like this that I rather not deal with them. Its the principle and that is something tu casa lacks, along with customer service and math skills. Its the damn principle and because a sour series of bad service happens over and over...I will not come back.
NOTE: BTW, those empanadas were all wrong and not what I asked for. When I called them to notify them of the error..the manager just said "what do you want me to do, I am busy. what do you want from me?!" uhhhhh douche fudging bag. too bad i couldnt send him my middle finger and tell him to shove it.
Cute cozy place for couples or a small group of friends. The food is good, ordered the steak and it was delicious! Drinks are pretty reasonable, went on a Wednesday night and they had a special on Margaritas - frozen or with ice and plenty of flavors to choose from only $5. What I liked the most though is the management and staff are very hospitable and friendly they make you feel at home. Only downside the place is small and nothing really fancy so if you're thinking of coming with a large group or trying to impress your date try somewhere else.
