Oh mylanta, I am craving their spicy brew brat right now. This place is mine, all mine (for lunch).
Why I love it here:
1) it takes 5 minutes for me to stroll here from where I work;
2) it's inexpensive;
3) there's no lunch crowd;
4) the patio;
5) the awesome menu (to name a few-falafel sandwich, frito pie, & fried Twinkie... need I say more?);
6) the complimentary salad bar; and
7) SPICY BREW BRAT- let me tell you:
one bite of that beer-brewed-chili-soaked bratwurst will make any tummy happy. The brat is placed in a fresh toasty hoagie, smothered in chili, topped with fried jalapeños, and garnished with a plump ring of fried onion (totally legit).
I came here with a friend (who is a hotdog connoisseur) we were impressed with the simple menu that had a pretty diverse selection.
We got dirty dog
It was a pretty standard chili dog
Dog pile
This was off the chain. Brisket and queso on a hotdog were a delight.
Cornydog
Also very good. Right amount of honey in the batter
Falafel (gotta get 1 healthy thing right!?)
Hmmm, not so much . The hummus is very pasty, needs work. Falafel wasn't too bad but the hummus ruined it.
All in all, This is a really good place and it is really affordable. Definitely would come back.
Went there for lunch with the hubby and groupon, our third wheel. The place was EMPTY, so we were kinda concerned. Really shouldn't have been. We ordered:
Vanilla Shake: Hubs said it was alright, but he probably wouldn't order it again. He wasn't necessarily disappointed with it though.
Dirty Dog: This is their standard chili dog, and its a good one. The hotdogs are LARGE and the toppings are piled HIGH, so be prepared for a mess! I always eat my chili dogs with mustard (its a deep south thing) and they keep mustard on the tables so I didn't have to ask for it.
Dog Pile: Another LARGE hotdog, piled with brisket, white cheddar, onions and tomato. Hubby loved it. And he made a mess too, so I wasn't alone in wearing my meal.
Mac and Cheese:Legit. Eat it. White cheddar cheese, elbow pasta and chili peppers, just legit.
Onion Rings: Should have passed on these. They were really greasy. And the batter had no flavor besides oil. Most of them went in the trash.
After eating there, I see why they were dead during the middle of the day. This is drunk food at its finest. Large portions, fairly cheap, and greasy (in a good way for the most part.) I think the only time I would eat the onion rings again was if I was drunk. But we have already decided that we will be back to try more hotdogs.
Maybe I would have had a better experience if I ate in the restaurant, but I got takeout during my first visit, and the experience was terrible.
I was a little worried when I showed up at 6pm, and the restaurant was completely empty (I was literally the only customer). But, since it's still pretty new, I didn't worry too much.
I didn't really start to be feel let down until I got home and realized that they left out part of my order (didn't forget to charge for it though). When I placed the order, they repeated it back to me and had the full order correct, but when I got home with my food, I realized my daughter's mac & cheese was missing.
I still might have forgiven such a mistake in a new restaurant if the food had ben good, but I was let down there too. I got the falafel sandwich, and it was terrible. Pretty much the only thing I could taste was the diced onion that filled every bit of pita that didn't have falafel. Although I really couldn't taste the actual falafel over the onion, the texture of it was soft and mushy (NOTE TO THE STAND: do not put tzatziki on a delivery or takeout order; leave it on the side). The sweet potato fries had a decent flavor to them, but they were also completely soggy.
If someone twists my arm, I might give the place one more shot to see if they do any better on non-takeout order.
Well...the atmosphere is very cool and we loved Blue Moon on tap. However, there was a LARGE pub crawl going on as we were down there and it was crazy busy on Mckinney. I'm not sure if the cooks were just overwhelmed or what but both our burgers were raw in the middle. When we asked for a new burger (our burgers were already dressed with mayo/mustard etc) the cook and manager rudely shewed us off. The burgers were recooked and the manager did apologize. We were offered free M&Ms and fried Twinky so that was nice.
The croutons in the salad bar were soggy and if you order a salad, you are just served a box full of lettuce to go add your own toppings (which looked like they had been sitting a while).
Overall, It was OK. Not sure if we will go back but if so, maybe we will try it at a much less busy time next time...
