Being a regular at the Phoenix Public Market, I never miss a chance to stop by the Smart Cookie booth to say hello to the wonderful guys there and, if I'm not being too bad, sample a cookie or two. And they are incredible (the guys and their cookies!). They've positively redefined the chocolate chip cookie, but I love their "Heartthrob", a heart-shaped shortbread cookie half dipped in a chili-chocolate. It breaks my heart my diet keeps me from eating more of them. There are some good reasons to come down to the PPM, Smart Cookie is definitely one of them :D

I was waiting for my lunch at the farmer's market this past Saturday when a nearby display of nerdy little cookies caught my eye. Baskets of gingerbread men with glasses made of icing. Too cute! The two men working were very friendly and enthusiastic about their business. I was won over by the designs and pleasant employees, so I decided to try The Heartthrob cookie- a heart shaped shortbread half dipped in chili infused dark chocolate. The shortbread was excellent. Light, crispy, and buttery. The chocolate got kind of melty from when I bought it to when I ate it, and it was sort of wilting off the cookie by that point, but it was still pretty tasty with a very light hint of chili. I could have done with a bit more zing, but incredibly spicy doesn't really mesh well with baked goods. I wished I'd purchased more of a variety of cookies so I would have a better scope of Smart Cookie's wares. I'm looking forward to trying more!
