I am a Chiropractor in North Hollywood. Marcy (McCusker) is an excellent Pilates instructor! My patients have gotten stronger and more flexible without getting injured under her training. It makes a huge difference that Marcy is also a professional dancer as she has an innate understanding of the body's proper movement that simply cannot be taught in an instructor training class. Enjoy your classes with her but be prepared to work hard.
Cheers! :)

My friend referred a coupon on Groupon for 5 (mix & match) classes for $30! Looking back, I couldn't have made a wiser decision.
I have gone to a couple of yoga sessions before... one in Simi Valley called the Yoga Nook, which was very slow paced and boring. I am no yoga expert- by any means. But this was just geriatric. THEN I came to Pilates Studio. And met my PHENOMENAL instructor: David, in all of his glory. He is an angel, he's GOT to be. Played the French band "Air" that I love so much during cool down... incredible. And his relaxing, Australian accent putting me at ease and in the state of tranquility during every session. David really knows what he's doing, he must have lifetimes of experience. I have never met someone so good at what he does.
I really was lucky to not only fall upon this coupon, but to have David as my instructor. All credit to him. Every Tuesday that I go, it is not only a workout, it's therapy for me. I can't wait until I can afford to sign up on a monthly plan so that I can see him every week, or everytime that I need some personal time.
Great workout, great atmosphere, GREAT STUDIO. I love you, Pilates Studio at the Annex. Mwah
I had my first private session with Janice this past weekend, and the experience was great.
She was extremely patient with me, and bubbly.
I will be signing up for a series.
To be honest, I didn't even know what Pilates was before this afternoon. A friend's usual semiprivate Pilates partner was out of town and she needed someone to fill in. As I'm slowly getting back in shape it seemed like a nice quiet Sunday afternoon activity. It sort of was, except for the painful parts, but that's exercise for you.
As I said, I don't know much about Pilates, or this studio's other classes, but I can tell you about my experience. We had a semiprivate lesson with Carl. He led us into a room with mirrors and machines. MACHINES?! Who knew!?
I told him it was my first time and he was very helpful, understanding, but also encouraging me to push myself. We did an hour of work on some machine that I have no idea what it's called, but it's essentially a system of ropes and pulleys that work out your body.
I did pretty well through most of the routine, but being unfamiliar with the equipment as well as slightly out of shape, I was uncomfortable with some of the exercises. Rather than tell me that I had to do them, or seem disappointed that I couldn't do them, Carl would accept my opinion and suggest another exercise that would work the same muscles.
I also thought that Pilates was a quiet experience like yoga. It was not. That's not a slam on yoga, cause I really do love that when I want to concentrate and relax. Carl, my friend and I had a delightful conversation going on throughout the workout. This helped to take our minds away from how much our calves ached or how many reps we had left. It was a great environment.
Unfortunately, the price for a semiprivate lesson is a little steep for my pay grade, I would gladly fill in when our other friend is out of town.

Okay, if you know me at all, you would know that I get very excited about certain things in life. This place got me head over heals with pilates! I am absolutely addicted (and slightly in love) and I want to quit my job so I can attend pilates classes all frickin day.
I started my initial pilates session with Katie W. SHE IS AWESOME. She did a terrific job explaining the core muscles and the basic form. We focused a lot on breathing and keeping my ribs in tight and I learned my way a little on the reformer. It was such a good work out that I felt great even 2-3 days after we had our session. I am now taking the mat classes as I try to build my piggy bank with lunch/booze money to hopefully get more private sessions/reformer classes in the future. The mat classes are so much better and more thorough than what you would get at any gym. The small class size allows the instructors to give more feedback and focus on areas that the attendees want to work on. Their online class schedules allows for you to reserve and pay for classes you want to take. It's easy to use and very informative. They also said a lot of the times they will have package specials and groupons rates to take advantage of.
I've checked for rates around other pilates studios and gyms such as Equinox and the price here is the best so far. There seems to be so much to learn about pilates and I cannot wait til I go back again. The studio is clean and quiet. The only thing about this place is that they hardly ever pick up their phones, but hey, they do return your calls. I haven't made it to the other locations yet but definitely will as I expand my pilates wings :)
